Advisory Council Meeting

Date: March 12, 2012

Attending: Jonathan Hayes, Principal;Dennis Loflin, Tim Bean, Judy Heffner

I. Registration Dates

Mr. Hayes noted that additional AP classes will be offered next year.

March 20that 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Curriculum Fair for rising 10th-12th graders

March 27th – April 4th

for rising 11th and 12th graders

April 24th – 27th

for rising 10th graders

April 30th

for rising 9th graders (not too many options)

May 3rd at 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Curriculum Fair for rising 9th graders

II. ACT Testing

Occurred on March 6th for 11th graders

NC State will set a baseline based on the ACT test results for use in establishing the accountability model.

College Visits for next year’s students entering 9th graders

Mr. Hayes would like to schedule trips for rising 9th graders to several local collegesin an effort to stimulate interest in pursuing higher education.

III. Dates to Remember

April 6-13th -- Spring Break

April 21st – Prom at Sapona Country Club in Lexington

This year the purchase of a ticket ($30) will include an optional

meal served at Sapona.

May 10th – Graduation Project Board Night

IV. SecondAnnualSouthDavidsonHigh School Auction

Mr. Hayes announced the second annual SDHS Auction scheduled for June 2nd from 6-10:00 PM. Vanessa Gallimore and Renee Anderson have organized the event soliciting businesses for items or events to be auctioned. A meal will also be offered. Proceeds from the auction will go towards campus security cameras.

V. Other concerns

Judy Heffner reported that there continues to be discussion regarding some type of monetary support for students that are taking college classes. Mrs. Lisa Paul has suggested purchasing college text books as this cost can exceed $100 per course. Mr. Hayes will check with other schools to see how they’re addressing this issue. Dennis Loflin will present the academic support suggestion to the Lions Club.

The next Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 14, 2012 at 8:30 am.
