Teachers Embracing Math and Science(TEMS) for STEM

A Math Science Partnership Grant funded by SDE

This grant is in collaboration with Florence District 4 and Thomas Hart Academy

DCSD: 80 teachers

FSD4: 7 teachers

THA: 5 teachers

The Objectives:

  • increase teacher STEM content knowledge through connecting math and science.
  • increase student performance on state assessments and district assessments.
  • provide instructional strategies to close the achievement gaps in the African American subgroup.

Updates:

  1. All grant sessions are can be found on the District’s Mathematics site. Any changes are highlighted in green and date of update is provided. 1 new session for K-8 by Pearson has been added.
  2. Please send me the names of the teachers you would like to be committed participants of the grant as outlined by Friday, September 18th.
  1. Need location for hosting the Elementary FOSS kits sessions. We need a Darlington Elementary school and a Hartsville school to host on October 13th. (2 presenters are being provided).

For K- 5: 40 teachers who teach math and/or science

Breakdown: 3 teachers per school

For 6-12: 10 Middle level math

I-STEM training (Hartsville Only)

Numeracy Leaders training will be at Poyner in Florence

Please send at most 2 teachers if interested. Registration is required and maximum capacity is 50 for all of the Pee Dee region. (Grant will pay travel)

Field Studies(transportation provided)

BMW tour -2 per school (all 23 including DCIT)

STEM summit- 1 per school (all 23 including DCIT)

SiMT tour- all grant participants are available to tour

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Trainings (tuition, travel, meals and hotel provided)

12 Elementary teachers @ 1 per school

2 Middle school teachers @ 1 per school

1 High school teacher

*selected teachers will be asked based on principal approval and willingness to train during summer months.

Teacher Step Common Core Math Content Standards course (Converse College) (25) (tuition and NCTM membership provided)

Elementary - 6 teachers available

Middle - 9 teachers available @ 2 per school and 1 for DCIS

High - 4 teachers @ 1 per school
