Synopsis to the tour activities for IVOA 2007

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Warmly welcome all the participants to attend IVOA BEIJING 2007, in Beijing’s most charming season. We sincerely wish the conference goes smoothly and successfully.

This is the first time for the IVOA Interoperability Meeting to be held in China. In order to get a deep understanding of Beijing and Chinawhilst to make your stay more fruitful in China, we’ve meticulously prepare some characteristic tour programs for you to choose. These programs are divided into A, B, C, three parts:

Program A: (Below mentioned program should be registered on the registration form)

A1: Great Wall and Ming Tomb one day tour (daily)

Meet the guide at your hotel. You will take a half-day guided visit to the awesomeGreat Wall of China. Here you can enjoy the stunning views as you stroll along this seemingly endless piece of history, which winds its way into the far distance. In the afternoon continue to explore the Ming Tomb. Service ends after transferring you to the hotel.

A2: Old Beijing Hutong Tour (afternoon, 16th of May)

The program is what we specially recommend to you for this conference in the afternoon 16th of May. Hope you will enjoy that. You will be taken by rickshaw which was very popular in the old days, to visit the garden of Prince Gong of the Qing Dynasty and even to pay a visit to an ordinary Beijing family in the compound houses. The hutongs of Beijing reflect in turn the history of Beijing as a whole. This must be a very interesting experience. We will provide you a very romantic dinner in the boat on the lake(8 pax per boat), after visit the kinder garden. You can enjoy the sun setting of Beijing west mountain on the lake and taste the being Moslem’s roast meat. There will be a Chinese pretty girl playing Chinese music with Chinese instrument on each boat during the dinner. Along the lake bank is a very famous bar street, you can invite your friends to have fun there. Service ends after transferring you to the hotel.

You will take a Full-day guided visit to Tian’anMen Square, Forbidden City andTemple of Heaven. Service ends after transferring you to the hotel in the afternoon.

A4:LamaTemple, SummerPalace and BeijingZoo(Grand Panda) one day tour (Tue,

Thu, Sat)

Visit LamaTemple -a renowned lama temple of the Yellow Hat Sect of Lamaism, is the only downtown Buddhism temple in Beijing. LamaTemple is also a former imperial palace in Qing dynasty. Then drive to SummerPalace - 20 kilometers northwest of downtown Beijing. SummerPalace is the largest imperial garden of Ming and Qing dynasty. The whole SummerPalace covers an area of over 290 hectares including more than 3,000 buildings, such as halls, pavilions, towers, etc. We will visit the Grand Panda in Beijing Zoo after lunch. Be transferred back to your hotel after the tour in the afternoon.

Introduction: This is the most classics route which we specially prepared for the participants who first been to China. It represents the essential scenery of China and takes about 10 days.

Shanghai the biggest city and financial center of Asia, it represents the achievement and development of China. We will visit ShanghaiMuseum which has been recommended by many famous heads of various states in the morning and Yu Garden with over 400 years history in the afternoon. We have a tea break in a very famous tea house called HuXinTing, Wandering along Yuyuan Bazaar, known among old-timers as "Old City God's TempleMarket" after the tea break. Dinner will be served in a famous restaurant called “imperial palace on the water” along the Huangpu riverside. Enjoy the night view of the bund by cruising on the HuangpuRiver after dinner. After all climb up the Asia’s tallest TV tower “Oriental Pearl" to get a whole night view of Shanghai.

Suzhou known as eastern Venice and the paradise on earth is a typical Chinese small city. It is famous for its private landscape gardens and courtyard houses compare with the western construction. The UNESCO has endorsed nine of them as world cultural heritage sites It is lying on the river bank; in China we say it’s like a cup of Chinese tea fragrant till now. You can not only enjoy the garden view here but also boating on the Grand Canal. Visiting the famous Chinese embroidery, you can get whole enjoyment of how a world famous painting convert into a embroidery works. Finally you will stay over night in a Suzhou characteristic hotel.

On the way to Hangzhou you will visit a small town with over 1200 years history and also endorsed as the world cultural heritage sites by UNESCO-Wuzhen. This small town, with its black tiled, tung oil painted timber framework houses that contrast sharply with its white walls and gray flagging, brings to mind a Chinese wash painting. You can see the old foliage dyeing workshop, wine brewing workshop and Chinese special shadow play at this old style town.

Hangzhou the most beautiful city in China which is also called "Paradise under Heaven"-a picturesque natural garden. You will stay over night in Xizi Hotel a 5 Star hotel where former Chairman Mao stayed. Up to now the hotel still kept the room he formlly stayed, where you can also enjoy the view of the WestLake. Visiting the Fish Wonder at Huagang Crook, Lingyin (Soul's Retreat) Temple, the Feilai Peak (Peak that Appears out of Nowhere) and also boating on the West Lake whilst enjoy the famous Longjing tea.

Xi’an the world famous city with over 2000 years history where the first emperor of China lived, has a lot of historical spots. We’ve chosen the most essential part for your enjoyment: Terracotta Warriors and HorsesMuseum, the wild goose pagoda, City Wall, the Mosque, and ShanxiHistoryMuseum. The local specially Dumpling Dinner and the local performance- Tang Dynasty Show will be served as well.

Guilin– the Chinese most charming landscape with world famous karst landforms. Visiting the grotto and cruising(Lunch on the cruise) on the Lijiang about 5-6 hours will be arranged. Staying overnight in Yangshuo, the most beautiful spot of Guilin. The hotel( 4 star) you are going to stay can enjoy the beautiful view of Lijiang in the room so you can have a distinctive stay here. In the evening we sincerely recommend you to watch the unique Chinese opera show-Impression Sanjie Liu. The performance regards the impressional Sanjie Liu as the general theme，and creatively combines the classical Saniie Liu's Songs，ethnic groups’Culture and the fishing lights together，to reflect the harmonious atmosphere between human beings and the nature．The performance lasts for 70 minutes and 600 plus actors and actress are involved．

27th May (SUN)After breakfast , departure for two hours riding cart sightseeing along the countryside road, during the tour, you not only can see picturesque landscapes but also enjoy visiting farmers house, rice growing paddy fields with farmers & water buffalos working there. Take the local farmer flavor as lunch, visit the beautiful view Group of Gragons greeting Guest by bicycle. Enjoy the Chinese Opera Show-Impression Sanjie Liu.

28th May (MON) Depart for the downtown after breakfast, take flight back to Beijing, end of the tour. Dismiss at BeijingAirport.
