Dear Parents:
I’d like to welcome you and your child to my fourth grade class! This is going to be a busy, but exciting school year! We will be doing many academic, but fun activities this school year. I’d like to invite and encourage you to come in and volunteer if you choose. You must get fingerprinted and TB tested first! If you don’t have the time to volunteer in the classroom, but have materials and/or resources that coincide with what we’re studying in class, please feel free to send them to school with your child. I will be taking volunteers starting sometime in October.
The following academic areas will be covered this school year:
Art, Computer Science, Language Arts (reading, spelling, grammar and writing), Math, Music, P.E., Science and Social Studies
*This year we will also be studying Character Education. One of the main Characters I focus on is Responsibility. This character is most often used in the areas of turning homework/daily planners and staying on task in class. Homework is extremely important in the fact that it reinforces our daily and weekly lessons. Homework shouldn’t take your child longer than an hour including 30 minutes of reading each night. If it is taking a lot longer than that, please email me so we can discuss, as a team, what modifications would benefit your child in completing their homework. Please remember that we’re a partnership and teamwork is very important in the education of your child. Working together will ensure your child’s academic success.
Extras:
weekly visits to the computer lab/chromebooks
weekly visit to the library with silent reading each day in class. Children are expected to check out books on their AR reading level.
kindergarten buddies with Mrs. Berkley once/twice a month. We will help them with projects and read with them.
In addition, your child will need to bring some school supplies by Monday! A list was posted on the school website.
*I am very excited for this upcoming year. Please contact me at school if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Mrs. Conway

Welcome to Mrs. Conway’s Fourth Grade Class!
As we begin our 2015-2016 school year, it is important that you and your child are informed about fourth grade, about my expectations and about me. This informational packet will inform you of our activities and academics for this school year. The first week we will be going over school, class, bus and playground rules. Please make sure that you and your child understand all of the rules and expectations of a fourth grader. Also, please make sure that your child understands the consequences if the rules and expectations are not followed.
Mrs. Conway’s educational and teaching background:
This is my seventeenthyear teaching. I received my bachelor’s degree and teaching degree from CaliforniaStateUniversity, Chico. I also did my student teaching in Chico. I have taught Kindergarten, third and fourth grade.
Classroom Rules:
- Be safe at all times (keep your hands and feet to yourself)
- Respect others and their personal belongings as well as your belongings and yourself.
- Treat others as you want to be treated.
- No inappropriate language.
Positive Behavior
*Conway Cash
*Class rewards (movie, small party, extra recess, free play)
Negative Behavior
During the first week of school the students become familiar with the rules and expected behaviors. There will be an online behavior tracking program along with online grading that you’ll have access to. You’ll get the information soon to sign up and be able to go online as often as you want to check in on your child’s behavior and grades.
Communication:
Communication is very important. We’re all in this together! Please feel free to email me during school hours if you have questions or comments. I check my email a few times a day, during school, and do not check it at home. Please be patient and I will get back to you when I can.
Email: 434-5220 (7:45-3:10)
It is also extremely important that you check your child’s homework folder and backpack daily for notes from the school and/or myself.
Homework:
Responsibility is not only one of our six character traits we study at school, but a life long, daily theme that I will reinforce with your child this school year. Therefore, your child (not you), is responsible for turning in their homework, daily planners, and remembering their text books, library books, etc. All homework is due on or before the due date. No exceptions, except in the case of an absence or emergency.
Homework is as follows:
*25 minutes of reading each night (M-Th) and 90 minutes over the weekend.
*math (backside of the day’s lesson)
*spelling (to be done on lined paper and turned it daily)
Monday—study words missed from pretest (Mondays)
Tuesday—sentences
Wednesday—abc order
Thursday—three times each
Friday-Final test
Students will fill out a nightly agenda showing all Homework for the day. The reading log is included on the agenda. Please initial the agenda each day! Homework will be sent home daily in a folder.
Field Trips and in school presentations:
Field trips are a privilege, not a requirement! Appropriate behavior and all work must be completed in order to attend. Field trips are generally $5-$15 each including the bus.
Field trips are to be determined at this time.
Parent Involvement:
You may volunteer at any time, but be sure to get fingerprinted and T.B. tested first!
Parent participation is very important to ensure your child is successful in school. It is important that you reinforce school-learned skills at home. Please take an interest in your child’s schoolwork. Support and encouragement is also very important. Academic support at home will greatly benefit your child. Remember, we’re a team!
Please review these guidelines with your child and make sure they understand my expectations. Please sign and have your child sign the bottom of this page.
Thank you,
Mrs. Conway
Return this page only by Monday!
My child and I have read and understand Mrs. Conway’s rules and expectations. Please have your child sign, too!
