Information Sheet for Saginaw High School and Chisholm Trail High School

Bring this sheet on the first day of class:

The permit test will be given on ______during the regular class time. YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ON THE DAY OF THE TEST:

  • Social Security Card
  • ORIGINAL birth certificate (or current passport or Texas ID card)
  • School ID
  • Glasses/contacts if needed
  • DL – 14 Application – MUST BE NOTARIZED AND COMPLETED IN BLACK INK

All students will have the opportunity to take their permit test at Saginaw High School during their class session. If the student fails to show any of the above items, they will not be able to take the permit test at school.

If a student does not take the test at school, they will then be responsible for taking the test at the DPS office on their own. In addition to the above information, the student will then need to obtain a VOE form from the school office. The cost of the VOE form is $1. The student will need to notify the classroom teacher when they have their permit so driving may be scheduled in the future.

Students will go to the driver’s license office in Lake Worth to pick up their license. These are usually ready 1-2 days after the permit test. Students will take an eye exam, and they will have their picture taken. You will be required to pay the permit fee to the driver’s license office at this time (usually $16).

Students will be contacted by a driving instructor when it is their turn to drive. Sometimes this takes as long as 4 – 6 months; however, we will finish the driving portion of the class before students are eligible to test for their licenses. Students must drive with instructors for 7 hours and observe other students driving for 7 hours. Students are also required to log an additional 20 hours with their parents – 10 of which must be at night. Parents will sign that these additional hours have been completed on the final “green sheet”.

During the driving phase, students may in some instances drive with instructors one on one. This is not typical, but may occur at times due to cancellations or schedule conflicts.

Parents are encouraged to begin driving with their teens as soon as they receive their learner’s permit – even if it is only in parking lots and quiet neighborhoods.

Upon the completion of the driving portion of the class, students must present their completion form (given to them by the driving instructor) to Coach Huddleston. He will then check their payment status and issue their “green sheet’ showing completion of the course. THEY MUST HAVE THIS GREEN SHEET IN ORDER TO TEST FOR THEIR DRIVER’S LICENSE! Students will also need to go to the office and request a VOE form whenever they go to receive/renew their licenses.

After students have held their learner’s permits for at least 6 months, and when they are 16 years of age, they may take their completion certificate and their VOE forms to the driver’s license office to schedule a driving test to receive their license.

Please keep this information as a reference. Detach the form below and return it to the classroom instructor on the first day of class. This will be for a grade.
