Title:Skrifenyas/Skrifenyades an Konsel Gorsedh Kernow

Gorsedh Kernow Council Secretary.

Responsible to:Gorsedh Kernow Council via the Grand Bard and the Administration

Working Group.

Main purpose:

The Gorsedh Kernow Council Secretary

  • provides valued assistance to Gorsedh Kernow in the achievement of its purpose - to maintain and give expression to the national spirit of Cornwall.
  • supports the running of the Gorsedh Kernow Council and attends to paperwork, actions from meetings and correspondence.
  • fulfils a limited ceremonial role, providing support for the Grand Bard and the Deputy Grand Bard.

Commitment:The equivalent of one day a week.

Honorarium:£2,500 per annum

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and circulate agenda and papers for:
  • four meetings of the Administration Working Group each year
  • three Gorsedh Kernow Council meetings each year
  • the Annual General Meeting
  • Book, prepare and close the meeting room for the meetings of the Administration Working Group and the Gorsedh Kernow Council.
  • Write up and circulate minutes fromthose meetings.
  • Attend to certain specifiedactions arising fromthose meetings.
  • Maintain the Gorsedh Kernow Council Handbook (usually revised once every three years).
  • Receive, report on and respond to postal and email correspondence to and from the Gorsedh Kernow Council and the Grand Bard, re-directing as appropriate.
  • Liaise with the Local Organising Committee of the host town for the main Gorsedh Kernow ceremony in September to locate a suitable venue for the AGM which follows the Proclamation in that town.
  • Organise accommodation and hosts for Breton and Welsh delegates to the September Gorsedh Kernow ceremony.
  • Facilitate the Bardic Tea at the September Gorsedh Kernow ceremony.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Needs to be a bard of Gorsedh Kernow
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to the purpose of Gorsedh Kernow - to maintain and give expression to the national spirit of Cornwall as a Celtic country.
  • Good communication and diplomacy skills.
  • Good literacy skills.
  • Good general IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Good planning skills.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to prepare agendas and write effective minutes.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to meetings, most of which take place in Truro.
