Volunteer Position / Waterway and Lakeside Patrol

Park hours: 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Description of work involved / Removal of debris from water’s edge and lakes along the park’s shorelines.
Hours volunteers can work / Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., by appointment only.
Level of difficulty
1=easy
5=physically demanding / 3 – use of canoe, paddleboat, or johnboat may be needed.
Skills required / Swimming skills preferred. Experience in handling small, non-motorized watercraft will be helpful when utilizing boats for debris removal/transport.
Shady or full sun area / Work will be in full sun.
Access to restroom facilities / Restrooms are located throughout the park and accessible within walking distance from any area within the park.
How many volunteers are needed for this project?
Individuals
Small Group-up to 30
Large Group-over 30 / This project would be suitable for a large group of more than 30 people; however, smaller groups would also be welcome.
How often do volunteers need to work on site? / One-time project.
Tools and equipment provided / Pick sticks, garbage bags, boats, paddles, and life jackets will be provided.
Tools volunteers can bring if desired / Boat hooks, graspers, nets, gloves, buckets, etc.
Personal items to bring / Sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, shoes that can get wet, gloves, water and/or snack, cell phone.
Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as needed / We will provide personal protective equipment as needed and instruct in proper use.
Project Start Date / Ongoing.
Project Completion Deadline / Ongoing.
Duration of program / Up to eight hours – one full day.
Volunteer Application Deadline / No deadline. Volunteers may submit the Workday Volunteer Application.
Orientation/Training / Volunteers must attend an initial training, which will take place on the first workday.
Restrictions / Volunteers will follow all park safety and operational procedures and directives.
Extra comments / This is a wonderful project for those who enjoy paddling on the beautiful lakes of C.B. Smith Park.
