TECHNICAL OFFICER

SNIPEF is the Scottish & Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation. We are the principal trade association representing the interests of plumbing and heating businesses based in Scotland and Northern Ireland. SNIPEF operates the Plumbing Industry Licensing Scheme, manages the modern apprenticeship scheme for plumbing in Scotland and delivers training in a range of areas. We aim to ensure the highest standards across the plumbing and heating industry in Scotland and Northern Ireland and to assist our members in employing qualified, professional and highly skilled staff. SNIPEF currently has over 750 member firms employing over 3500 plumbers; in addition SNIPEF facilitates the training of 700 plumbing apprentices.

Job description

The post of Technical Officer is a key role providing Technical input and advice to the organisation as a whole as well as direct to member firms.

Key responsibilities

·  Developing, managing and providing technical support to a number of membership approval schemes relating to plumbing and building standards;

·  Provision of advice to members on a range of subjects including technical, health and safety and contractual issues;

·  Organising and /or participating in the delivery of technical training to members and in technical inspections of work;

·  Making presentations and representing SNIPEF at meetings and events;

·  Writing technically focused articles for publications and the SNIPEF website;

·  Acting as Secretary to the SNIPEF Technical Task Group

Successful candidates will hold a plumbing related technical qualification at S/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. A related building engineering services discipline may be considered.

They will have good written and verbal communication skills and have appropriate administrative experience. They will be required to work both independently and as part of a small team overseeing a number of approval schemes for its members and providing technical input and advice.
