LANGUAGE ARTS

Next week literature will help us take trips near and far. Our class will explore the questions “What are some different ways to travel?” We’ll meet an adventurous pig and a cautious goat who have trouble agreeing on a way to travel in the fantasy story The Big Trip. Then we’ll meet some real explorers in the informational text Lewis and Clark’s Big Trip.

Sight Words: about, by, car, could, don’t, maybe, sure, there

Phonics Skills: Long e (CV, CVCe); vowel pairs ee, ea; final ng, nk

Vocabulary Strategy: Define words

Comprehension Skill: Compare and contrast-tell how two things are alike or not

Comprehension Strategy: Visualize-picture what is happening as you read

Writing Focus: Narrative writing-sentences about yourself

Spelling Words: me, be, read, feet, tree, keep, eat, mean, sea, these

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will expand our knowledge of presidents and other patriotic men and women in the U.S. prior to 1880 such as George Washington and Betsy Ross.

MATH

Next week in math we will continue to work on Chapter 8. We will be using place value to understand properties of operations to add and subtract. We will be doing this by: subtracting and adding tens, using a hundred chart to count on by ones and tens, using models to help add ones and tens to a two-digit number, and making a ten to help add a two-digit number and a one digit number.

SCIENCE

We will continue to read and discuss topics in our "Science Studies Weekly Adventure" magazines. The topics will be homes and families. After this, we will learn more about physical science by investigating heat and light.

A big shout out to families for donating items for the Valentine’s Day party! We would also like to thank Mrs. Freet and Ms. Luca for being the room mothers and organizing the parties. THANK YOU!!
