Race detail

This race has been running for over thirty years and has a reputation for being a low-level but very friendly event. Do not put Wolfreton in your SatNav as you will end up in Norfolk – the race started originally with Wolfreton School Canoe Club near Hull who developed into Kingston Kayak Club.

The start and finish is at NorthFrodinghamWharf on the Driffield Navigation on the side of North Frodingham village.

The site has adequate car parking and reasonable access and egress to the water – plenty of people to help. Toilet facilities are Portaloos. Few facilities in the village are open on Sundays apart from the pub – even the petrol station is closed.

The coursesare based on the Driffield Navigation (canal) and the upper non-tidal reaches of the River Hull. The water is generally clear enough to see the fish swimming about. Some weed can be experienced on the 8 mile course but it can be adapted to miss it. No portages on any of the courses.

River level normally low and slow moving at time of the race but obviously dictated by weather conditions. Slight current on the canal. Wind can be an issue as it is an exposed location leading to wave chop on the Divisional races but not such an issue on the Lightning and Fun races.

A good beginners’ race and a fun race is available. Normally attracts Division 7 to 9 plus Lightnings and fun racers. KKC normally provide support paddlers for the fun races.
