‘You Do We Do’ for parents of participants
Cornerstone takes the safety of your child very seriously and we operate a child protection policy in line with South Oxfordshire District Council’s Safeguarding Policy.[1] By signing the register, you are confirming your understanding and agreement with our standards of protecting your child.
What we ask you to do:
Arrive early for the first class and report to the box office
We need to take some details so that we can look after your child. Please tell our box office team about any medical or behaviouralmatters that you think are relevant. If you would like privacy for this, we can arrange that for you.
Meet the tutor
For children under the age of 6, the tutor will collect children from the box office and take a register. They will bring them back to the same place. The best way of the children settling in to the class is if you stay downstairs. If you have any concerns about this just talk to one of our team.
Stay in the building
If your child is under 5 years old we insist that parents stay at Cornerstone during their class, as we are not able to look after children of any age before or after the class. You are welcome to wait for them in the cafe.
Talk to us
We want this to be a great experience for your child so if you have any concerns about Cornerstone as a public building or with the class please talk to us.
What Cornerstone will do:
Train and check the staff
Cornerstone and Cornerstone’s tutors are ‘in loco parentis’ for your child from the published start time to the published end time of the activity. We conduct DBS checks on all Cornerstone tutors and staff who spend regular time with children, in line with DBS guidelines and all staff and tutors undergo Level 1 Safeguarding training with South Oxfordshire District Council.
Assess and monitor all activities
We risk assess both the building and the activity and take any precautions arising from this. There are first aiders on site and staff who can deal with any incidents. We keep in close touch with our tutors and any incidents are recorded and promptly. We will contact you if something happens that you need to know about.
Deal with any problems.
In the event of a serious behavioural incident leading the tutor to fear for the child’s safety or that of other class participants, the tutor will contact the Duty Manager who will take the child out of the classroom and wait with them until you collect them and we can talk about the best way forward.
Code of Conduct – Workshop Participants
- Have fun!
- At all times please act in a safe and responsible manner and do not put yourself or others at risk
- Do not eat or drink in class except water from a capped water bottle,or when it is sanctioned by the tutor
- You must not accept violent or aggressive behaviour from anyone whilst taking part in a Cornerstone class. If anything disturbs you, you must tell the tutor or other member of Cornerstone staff
- We do not accept students being violent or aggressive to others at Cornerstone – this includes swearing, raising your voice in anger, physical contact or bullying
- If an incident should happen in class, let your tutor know and help them fill out an incident report form. Incidents can include accidents, breaches of student code of conduct and near misses. It’s important we know about these things so we can prevent accidents happening
- If you have any concerns about the physical state of the room or equipment you must not use it and must report it to the tutor or other member of Cornerstone staff
- If a student misbehaves the tutor has the option of giving them a warning to behave and then if the student persists in misbehaving the tutor can ask them to leave the class
- If a student misbehaves as above or to such an extent that the tutor fears for their safety or the safety of others, or it is such a disruption that the class cannot continue, then the tutor will ask them to leave the class. If the student is over 18 they will be asked to go home. If the student is under 18 they will be asked to wait with duty staff whilst an adult from home is called to let them know.
- Always feel free to discuss any concerns or class developments with your tutor or other Cornerstone staff – we want you to enjoy your class!
