Research Papers and Presentations
Paper and Presentation due:______
I] Written Portion (200 points):
You will be writing a researched paper which explores how a poet treats a particular idea, theme, topic, concern, philosophy… Choose a poet(s) from the list below. Please do not choose a poem you have already done a paper on for another class- Also, do not choose a poem we have covered in this class. We want to cover new territory. Research these poets and decide what topic you want to explore. Include in your paper, the social, natural, and/or political circumstances of the time period, as well as relevant biographical and literary movement considerations. Why is this topic a source of poetry and how does the background affect the poet’s/ poets’ tone? In addition, you will be analyzing the devices in these poems in order to defend your claim. How does the language and structure of the poem contribute to the treatment of ______. Use the techniques on the explication sheet and the chapters we have covered in our text as your guide. There is a sample of a researched paper on poetry on page 1224 of your text. You must include at least three different poems of at least 14 lines in your study; shorter poems are fantastic, but they are extra. Attach annotated copies of the poems to the end of your paper. Include the source(s) of these poems as well as the sources for all your research in the Works Cited page of your final paper. This paper must be five-seven typed pages and must include at least five different vetted and scholarly sources. Use the Noodle Tools, MLA format, parenthetical citations, and the Works Cited page as shown in your AP text, or Purdue OWL or the Manta Writing Handbook or our media center resources. Without citations and a works cited for the information that is not common knowledge, the words will be considered stolen and you will receive a zero. If your citations and format are not correct, I will return the paper to you ungraded, and you will have to redo by the next day for a letter grade off the final grade. You will be sharing your paper in a round table discussion.
