MPUMALANGA TO HONOUR STRUGGLE ICONS DURING HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATIONS

MBOMBELA - Mpumalanga celebrates Heritage Month by taking services to the community of Eidenburg in Ward 36 next to Malamula High school in Bushbuckridge on Saturday, 29 September at 9:00.

Heritage Month is celebrated under the theme, “Celebrating Heroes and Heroines of the Liberation Struggle in South Africa”. This year’s commemoration is aimed at highlighting the struggle of fallen heroes and heroines. Also, it celebrates our rich forms of heritage and diverse cultures.

Premier DD Mabuza, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Ms Sibongile Manana and Bushbuckridge Municipality Mayor, Cllr Renias Khumalo will visit and clean the graves of three (3) of the heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle and also pay homage to one of the Provinces’ living legends Mr Joseph Mabunda. The process of identifying the people who will be honoured on the day is in motion and the department is in consultation with the Bushbuckridge municipality.

Government departments will be rendering services to the community of Edinburg as part of the Community Rural Development Programme. During the celebration newly built houses will be handed over to needy families including a child-headed household, sport attire will be given to local community sporting clubs, and school uniforms will be donated to learners from Malamula, Godide and Mahubo high schools.

The department of Health will also be rendering health services including eye tests and handing over of wheels chairs to people with disabilities. “We urge community members in Bushbuckridge and its surrounding areas to bring their ID books as the Department of Home Affairs and SASSA will be on site rendering services such as registration of births, deaths and applications for social grants,” says spokesperson for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Sibongile Nkosi.

The celebration promises to be an exciting day of music, song and dance and the people of Mpumalanga are encouraged to come in their different traditional attires to showcase the various and diverse forms of cultural groups in the province.

Patrons can look forward to entertainment from traditional artists such as Pensele, Ga Pharea and Ama’Shagaana Traditional Dancers and buses will be available to transport community members from various townships in the Bushbuckridge area.
