Support for Safe Clinical Learning
Purpose: To enable clinical staff to effectively develop and validate competence in colleagues, students, and new hires.
Target Audience: Direct care providers who support orientation, internship, performance evaluation, and/or coaching for students, new grads or other new hires in the healthcare workplace. Secondary audience includes academic faculty, managers and educators who use internship, orientation, performance evaluation, student clinical &/or preceptor programs in the clinical setting.
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Northeast Multi-State Division (NE-MSD), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Preceptor Preparation: Resources, Styles & Development (core program includes thisself-study module)
Purpose: To use self-awareness of personality, learning, conflict and Critical thinking styles to improve experiential learning for novices that they precept, within the parameters of agency protocol, resources, and professional practice.

This offering seeks to bring about a change in clinical performance. Participants will:
1. Identify developmental needs within participant’s agency or unit2. Apply core concepts of communication and effective feedback to improve relationships, learning, safe practice and teamwork
3. Use evidence-based principles of teaching and learning to foster critical thinking development in the clinical practice of the student and/or novice that is being precepted
4. Ensure appropriate roles, assignments, delegation, and supervision of patient care as determined by learner’s scope of practice, capability and accountability
5. Develop reflective practice in the learner with individualized clinical coaching plans that adapt to learning styles and track competence achievement in an objective, measurable, & specific manner
6. Create a work plan for supporting effective precepting in their agency or unit
