Hours:30 hours per week

Salary:SC1 Sp11: £18,612 pro rata

‘The Way Ahead’ is City and Hackney Mind’s new Big Lottery funded 10 week Employability service.

Via an intensive 10 week programme, the aim of the service is to improve people’s educational ability, employability, confidence and mental wellbeing, so that they are ‘job ready’ or able to progress into further training or education at the end of the programme.

Summary of Role

The Trainee Employment Adviser willassist the Senior Employment Adviser to provide individually tailored support to adults with mental health needs in The City, Hackney and Waltham Forestsupporting them to access and secure employment, training and educational opportunities in line with their needs and aspirations.

As this is a trainee position, candidates are not required to have any previous knowledge of employment workas a full training package will be provided.

Main Tasks

Working with Clients

  1. To undertake assessments of client’s needs, vocational history, skills and aspirations and to develop a vocational plan with each client accessing the service.
  2. To provide regular face-to-face support to clients to empower those to access appropriate employment, training, and educational, opportunities in line with their vocational plans. This will include, CV writing, advice on job applications, interview training and supporting clients to access benefits advice.
  3. To support clients to research and apply for vocational opportunities using a range of media, including newspapers, directories and the Internet.
  4. To provide a job matching service to clients.
  5. To assist in organising employment and personal development workshops to groups.
  6. To track the progress of clients up to 3 months after they have left the service.
  7. To maintain accurate client records both in written and electronic forms.
  8. To monitor and keep under review any employment that is secured including the client satisfaction with the job and the support that they receive.
  9. To provide support to maintain CHM database
  10. To provide administration duties to ensure referrals and applications are managed within agreed timeframes

General

  1. To comply with and promote City and Hackney Mind's Vision, Philosophy, Aims and Objectives and all organisational systems, policies and procedures.
  2. In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to take responsibility for your own health and safety at work and that of any staff, service users or visitors you are working with, and to report any risks or potential hazards to the Health and Safety Representative.
  3. To keep records and statistics for dissemination to effectively monitor the service, ensuring that all files and information is kept in accordance with City and Hackney Mind's policy on confidentiality.
  4. To be administratively self-servicing, including proficiency in the use MS Word, MS Excel and the use of email systems, or any other such software or IT systems as maybe required in connection with fulfilling any of the above tasks.
  5. To liase with other City and Hackney Mind projects and staff from partner agencies and external stakeholders to facilitate and maintain effective links.
  6. To attend and participate in team meetings, contributing to discussions
  7. To attend supervision, appraisal meetings and appropriate internal and external training courses as approved by your line manager.
  8. To attend City and Hackney Mind staff away days.
  9. To undertake any other tasks and duties commensurate with the post as directed by the Employment Service Manager, or other senior position in City and Hackney Mind.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  1. Good understanding of the barriers to employment faced by long term unemployed people and people with poor mental health/ mental health needs
  2. Ability to work with vulnerable adults and/or people with mental health needs
  3. Basic understanding of the Equality Act and how this relates to people with mental health needs
  4. Written and verbal communication skills that are concise and accurate.
  5. The ability to respond sensitively to difficult issues with people
  6. The ability to work with service users, colleagues and external stakeholders to achieve the aims of the programme
  7. Demonstrable IT skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Internet and experience of databases
