Demonstration Essentials:
Vaginal Use

1.  Check the expiration date inside the fold on the right side of the package.

2.  Note that the tube is closed at one end, and that the female condom has two rings (an inner ring and an outer ring).

3.  Explain that the female condom is made of nitrile, which is safe for people who have latex allergies.

4.  Note that the female condom is pre-lubricated with silicone-based lube.

5.  Compress the inner ring to insert into the vaginal canal, either by using the thumb and middle finger or by twisting the inner ring into a figure 8.

6.  Remind participants that the inner ring must be kept inside for vaginal sex because it keeps the female condom in place.

7.  Explain that the inner ring rests around cervix, and that it is in the right place when you can’t feel it.

8.  Emphasize that the partner must insert into the condom and not to the side or pushing it in. Hold the outer ring the first time he enters. The outer ring must stay outside the vaginal canal.

9.  When finished, twist the condom to hold in liquids and pull slowly to remove.

10.  Throw the condom away. Use a new condom with every sex act.

11.  Emphasize that two condoms can NEVER be used at the same time. Either use one male condom, OR one female condom.

When Using Models:

1.  Make sure the model is in an anatomically correct position.

2.  Hold the model in a position that mimics lifelike angles and so it can be easily seen.

3.  Point out anatomical features.

4.  Insert the female condom through the vaginal opening, NOT the cutout.

5.  Use the cutout only to show the cervix. Cover the cutout with your hand when demonstrating so the female condom stays in place.
