Livingston- Kevin Oshee, 21, of 1486 Cottonwood Drive, Denham Springs, LA, was sentenced to 25 years at hard labor after pleading guilty to Auto Burglary (2 counts), Attempted Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling (2 counts), Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling (2 counts), and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, said District Attorney Scott. M. Perrilloux.
Assistant District Attorney Matthew Belser prosecuted the case, and Judge Zorraine Waguespack handed down the sentence.
On December 22, 2010, Denham Springs Police officers arrested Oshee after DNA evidence linked him to two auto burglaries in the Cottonwood Drive area of Denham Springs, which had occurred in May of 2010. Within one of the burglarized vehicles, Denham Springs Police were able to obtain a handprint and blood sample, which the LSP Crime Lab later matched to Oshee. The District Attorney’s Office filed formal charges against Oshee in January 2011.
While that case was pending, Oshee was again arrested on new charges. On August 9, 2011, five days after appearing in court on his pending charges, detectives from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office were traveling on Andrews Road when they observed a suspicious looking male looking into a residence. The detectives pulled into the driveway and observed the male, who was later identified as Oshee, holding a prying tool and attempting to break into the residence.
When the officers attempted to apprehend Oshee, he got into a Mercedes with his accomplice Brian James Lilly, 23, of Shadow Bluff Ave., Denham Springs, LA. Oshee attempted to run over one of the detectives with the vehicle in an effort to avoid being captured. During the high-speed chase that ensued, the detectives observed the defendants throw a duffle bag from the window. Other deputies responded and found stolen firearms therein, which linked both defendants to two residential burglaries under investigation.
Further investigation connected the defendants in total to two residential burglaries and two attempted residential burglaries in the Denham Springs area, Perrilloux explained. Due to Oshee having prior felony convictions, he was also arrested and charged with the Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
“Thanks to the thorough investigation by both DSPD Detectives Albritton and Feske and LPSO Detectives Ballard and Bourgeois, we were able to put together a great case against Mr. Oshee and get him to plea to a significantly lengthy prison term,” said Belser. “For someone who is only 21 years of age to already have the criminal history that he has, Mr. Oshee certainly can be classified as a career criminal. I am glad that we were able to get this one resolved,” said Belser.
