Background:
Easy Bean makes one-pot meals and crispbread based on 100% natural ingredients. We have a small commercial kitchen & bakery based on a farm in South Barrow, Somerset. We are an entrepreneurial company that started trading in Nov 2007 and our largest customersinclude Ocado and Holland & Barrett. Our prepared food and baked crispbread are produced in small batches and have a “home made quality”. We supply into independent retailers through wholesalers and into Ocado directly.

Responsibilities to include:
- Making Crispbread working as part of the baking team; assist with the production of the crispbread including weighing of ingredients, preparing the crumb & dough, pressing and rolling out the dough using a dough sheeter and then dressing/seeding, followed by cutting prior to the bake.
- Weighing & Food Preparation. Weighingof recipe ingredients accurately and recording batch codes. Be prepared to lift bags of ingredients up to 25kg in weight. Assist with preparation of the ingredients prior to and whilst cooking.
- Cooking deputize for our cook when she is absent due to holiday or sickness. On these occasions you will be responsible for the preparation of our unique recipes in our small production kitchen. Ingredients are pre-weighed for the cook and are presented in order of addition to the cooking vessel. Strictly following our cooking instructions, prepare each batch adhering to food hygiene principles at all times. Undertake taste and quality assessment of all products.
- Washing Up & Cleaningthe washing up of utensils, cleaning of equipment and the production environment according to our schedules. Break down cartons and disposal of waste sacks at the end of the day.
- Documentation & Logging of datato be meticulous in recording the necessary data for our records such as temperature, yield data and goods in records.
- Goods In ability to drive a fork lift truck is desirable, but not essential. To assist with off-loading deliveries to Easy Bean
- Assist with other areas of production including packing as required.
Hours:
We are looking for a production baker to work 3 - 4 days a week. When covering for the cook, up to 5 days per week. Our baking days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
The typical schedule is:
6.30am to 3.30pm (8½ hours with half an hour unpaid for lunch).
Rate of Pay:
Initially we are offering £7.50 to £8.00 per hour (dependent upon experience) to be paid monthly in arrears + statutory holiday allowance.
Training:
We will offer in-house training in our baking process and will encourage the team to inter-change roles during the day to ensure a variety of tasks.
External training will be provided where necessary such as training for a fork lift license or for a food hygienecertificate.
Other:
We provide free refreshments at break times i.e. tea and coffee. We are a small, friendly team and we work in a beautiful rural environment.
Person Spec(those items in bold are essential)
- Proficient as a cook or baker and a desire to work in food production. An understanding of the principles of baking and cooking is desirable and we would encourage pride in the finished product – all batches tasted!
- Ideally have previously worked in a bakery or a food production environment and therefore have an up to date food hygiene certificate (Level 2) and a sound knowledge of food hygiene.
- He or she will need to look clean and tidy at all times and be fully conversant with their duties as handlers of food to be sold to the public
- To be fit and able to lift as this is a physically demanding role.
- An understanding of food production versus catering
- A non-smoker or at least accepts no smoking on our premises
- Will need to be able to drive because of our location (approx 1 mile from Sparkford)
- Preferably live within a 10 -15 mile radius of our location.
