PRINCIPLE PURPOSE OF JOB (role summary)

  • Daily management of refuse/recycling collection team.
  • Working with the management/supervisory team to ensure that your team provides a high quality, cost-effective service to our stakeholders and, as ambassadors of the Council, maintain a professional and polite attitude to customers, members of the public etc.
  • Ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times, especially sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work 1974.
  • Ensure that all polices regarding dignity at work and equalities are adhered to.
  • As part of the management team, provide effective feedback on all performance related issues, health & safety and disciplinary matters.
  • Carry out initial induction of new and temporary members of staff.
  • Ensure that the daily vehicle safety checks are carried out.
  • Ensure that the driver(s) comply with all transport legislation (1948 Transport Act and all subsequent relevant Acts) including the completion of required documentation.
  • Ensuring safe working practices are complied with.
  • Work as part of a crew removing household and commercial recyclable waste from properties on a collection round allocated by the Council.
  • Disposal of resource material as instructed at designated transfer sites within or outside the boundaries of Adur District or Worthing Borough.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POST HOLDER
Responsible for the performance, risk and reputation management of the collection team.
Ensuring all household recyclable waste/residual waste or garden waste is removed from premises indicated on the daily work sheet. No deviation from the prescribed daily route is permitted without prior agreement of the management.
Any known deviation from the terms and conditions of employment or other misconduct by any member of the crew, that is likely to place staff, the public or either Council at risk shall be reported to the Supervisory Team as soon as it is reasonably possible.
Ensure that the driver carries out the daily vehicle maintenance/safety checks are carried out and the checklist is completed in accordance with ‘Standing Orders for Council Drivers’and manufactures recommendations.
To attend any Team Leader briefings as necessary and identified by management. Cascade any relevant information to the rest of the team.
Report any incident or accident that may result in a claim or complaint immediately to base via two-way-radio, mobile phone or other in-cab communication device.
Carries out duties and responsibilities in compliance with the attached operating procedures.
