Oxbridge Academic Programs / Summer 2012 / Summer programs are available in New York, Oxford, Cambridge, Paris, Montpellier, and Barcelona. Programs are aimed at advanced high school students who have the desire and motivation to enrich themselves intellectually while becoming immersed in a foreign culture. The Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop / Session 1: June 24- July 7, 2012
Session 2: July 15-28, 2012 / The Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop is a two-week creative writing adventure for high school students at Kenyon College’s campus in Gambier, OH.

NYU Precollege Summer Program / July 2- August 10, 2012 / This program offers rising high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take up to two college-level courses at the Washington Square campus. Courses taken for credit are taken with current NYU students and taught by faculty. Topics include anthropology, computer science, languages, music, and psychology. Students will have the option to live in on-campus housing with other precollege students. Opportunities will also be offered to attend college-planning sessions and a summer college fair.

The Jonathan R. Reynolds Young Writers Workshop / June 12-19, 2011 / Denison University’s summer program in creative writing. The American Legion 2011 Maryland Boys State Program / June 17-23, 2012 / This year’s Boys State Program will be held at Washington College (Chestertown, MD). The program’s aim is to expose current high school juniors to the United States Constitutional form of government. The program will emphasize the necessity of their future active participation as a citizen in the government process to insure continuing freedoms and rights.
This is a week of learning and group participation for the students. They are required to work as a team under the close supervision of The American Legion Counselors. / See Mrs. Doutrich in the Guidance Office for a copy of the application or for more information.

Students will broaden their understanding of international affairs by enrolling in a 3-credit college class in foreign policy, international conflict resolution, or global health and the environment. SEI’s Pre-College Field Studies Experience is
  • designed for students who are passionate about the outdoors
  • for those that want to advance their knowledge and skills in the study of the environment
  • held on the campus of the University of the South in Sewanee,

Students will have the opportunity to explore Sewanee's ecologically diverse 13,000-acre campus under the guidance of faculty members who are passionate about environmental education. This program provides an interdisciplinary introduction to environmental studies.

Naval Academy Summer 2012 STEM Program / Rising 10th graders: June 11-16, 2012
Rising 11th graders: June 18-23, 2012 / The United States Naval Academy focuses on four areas during the Summer STEM Program: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This program is designed to encourage rising 8th-11th graders to pursue a course of study in engineering and technology throughout high school and college.
Selection is based on the following criteria:
-Student accomplishments in the classroom
-Student accomplishments outside the classroom
-Geography
All students selected to participate will receive a full scholarship to attend the camp, which includes your room and board, meals, as well as a variety of materials. Plan on bringing extra cash for snacks and souvenirs. / Applications are available at

Broadreach Summer Adventure Learning Programs / Worldwide summer adventure learning programs for middle school, high school and college students including marine biology, scuba, sailing, language immersion, medicine, culture, arts, community service and leadership adventures. Program locations include the Caribbean, Central and South America, Canada, Australia, China, India, South Africa, Egypt, France, the Solomon Islands and Fiji. Many Broadreach programs qualify for college credit and all incorporate a community service component ranging from 5-55 hours. Multiple certifications including PADI scuba certifications, IYT sailing certifications and Wilderness First Responder are offered, and trips are 14-31 days in length in June, July and August. / For more information:

University of Notre Dame School of Architecture Career Discovery / June 17-29, 2012 / The University of Notre Dame School of Architecture’s Career Discovery is one of the top programs in the US for high school juniors and seniors who want to learn more about studying architecture before they get to college.
Geared towards those who are considering an architecture program, participants not only learn architectural history but also skills and responsibilities required in contemporary architectural practice. University of Delaware Summer College 2011 / July 7- August 11, 2012 / Students spend five weeks with other motivated high school sophomores and juniors. Students live together in an air-conditioned residence hall while taking freshman-level courses for college credit- applicable to UD and most other accredited colleges and universities.
Summer College students work hard and play hard. They enjoy trips to major metropolitan areas up and down the East Coast, as well as Delaware beaches. PROMYS-
Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists
(Boston University) / Six-week summer program (check website for dates) / An extensive experience in creative mathematical exploration that will be offered to approximately 75 ambitious high school students with an exceptionally strong interest in mathematics.
PROMYS is a six-week residential program, with a cost of $2,700 (financial assistance is available).

American Farm School- Greek Summer Program / June 24- July 31, 2012 / The Greek Summer (GS) program was created in 1970 by AFS to offer young Americans an unmatched opportunity to be immersed in a foreign culture, challenging them physically and emotionally. Every summer a select group of high school students leaves for Greece on the GS program - a five and a half week odyssey that uniquely combines community service, village home-stay, travel, and an introduction to the American Farm School for a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience. Participants spend a short time at the School, but the core of the program is time spent living with a family in a small Greek village where they undertake a much needed community service project. Elijah Cummings Youth Program in Israel / ECYP is a free two-year fellowship for current high school sophomores. Grounded in the historic intent of strengthening relationships between the African-American and Jewish communities, they have fostered positive relationships between all ethnic communities within the 7th congressional district since 1998. Each year, they select 12 diverse fellows who reach these goals through the program’s three components: 1) biweekly diversity/conflict resolution workshops, 2) a summer cross-cultural experience in Israel, and 3) community service opportunities in Baltimore.

Pratt Institute Pre-College Program / July 9- August 3, 2012 / Each summer, virtually 400 high school students seize the opportunity to experience college-level study in Pratt Institute’s Pre-College program. The schedule consists of two (2) college credit-bearing classes and two (2) non-credit pass/fail courses designed to supplement he core curriculum, as well as lectures and cultural and social events. Classes meet Monday-Friday with extra-curricular activities scheduled in the evenings and weekends. Capstone Business Leadership Academy (The University of Alabama) / June 11-20, 2012
July 9-18, 2012 / The Capstone Business Academy is a 10-day residential summer program designed for academically exceptional rising high school seniors interested in obtaining an education and pursuing a career in business.
