8th grade Louisiana History

Welcome to another exciting year at Monteleone Junior High. I am enthusiastic about this upcoming year and the opportunities that will be available for the students and me to learn from one another. I hope that this syllabus will give you some insight on what my expectations are for your student and a brief overview of some concepts covered. It’s a great day to be a “Marlin.”

Suggested materials:

ü  3- ring binder with dividers

ü  Blue or black ink pens

ü  Red ink pens and highlighters for correcting

ü  Index cards

ü  Loose-leaf paper

General routines/procedures

Arrival: We will begin each class with a Daily Geography/History and/or a Journal Topic. You should arrive each day to class ready to work beginning immediately on the assignment before the bell rings.

Seating: You will be given an assigned seat after the first week of class which you will be expected to remain in unless otherwise noted.

Absences/Make-Up Work: It is your responsibility to find out what work you have missed from days missed. This includes class work and homework assignments. Assignments will be placed in a designated spot in the classroom for you to pick up. You should ask me about missed tests.

Water/Bathroom: You will be allowed one free pass per week for me in order to use the restroom or get water.

Others:

1. All assignments are to be completed in pencil or blue or black ink. NO OTHER COLORS!

2. Anyone who has a question or wants to contribute to the conversation in the class must first raise their hand and wait to be called upon.

3. All trash should be held until the end of class and dropped in the trash on the way out.

4. No gum, food, or candy is allowed in my class. Water bottles are allowed.

General overview:

In Louisiana History, we will be exploring the concepts of geology, geography, economics, government, and the many diverse cultures that make up the population of this great state, Louisiana. Students will be expected to apply subjects learned to how it affects their community, state, nation, and world.
