Course Description – Throughout this chapter, students will discover the following concepts:
1) what makes up matter.
2) that all matter has mass, weight, volume, and density.
3) how the properties of substances change.
4) ways that substances combine to create new substances.

Resource requirements – All students taking an online course will be expected to have access to a computer connected to the Internet and loaded with the appropriate Internet access software as well as MS-Office or a compatible package. Students will also need to be able to open Adobe files. Textbooks required for this class are Scott Foresman Science (©2006) Grade 4 (isbn10: 0328100048) and workbook (isbn10: 0328126136).

Introduction to the Textbook – The textbooks used in our 4th grade science class are attractive to the eye with holographic covers and detailed pictures within every lesson. The book is organized into four units: Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Space and Technology. Each unit contains a balance between important science content and hands-on activities (through scaffolded inquiry) that support every lesson. You’ll also find biographies, careers, and a NASA Connection within every unit. The workbook that the students will use corresponds to each chapter in the Student Edition textbook. The workbook offers students vocabulary, reading comprehension, and math practice; two worksheets for every lesson; content transparency worksheets; and take-home letters with comprehension and science activities.

Student Learner Responsibilities- It takes tremendous effort, hardwork, and self-motivation to take a class online. In order to be successful, you need to follow the basic steps below:

1) Check your email on a daily basis.

2) Submit your assignments online and on time.

3) Students are expected to keep up with the readings and all assignments.

Online Office Hours – We will not meet online at a specific time. Instead, we will run this chapter exactly as it looks in the outline. If at any time you need to get a hold of me, please feel free to email me or call me. I will get back to you within 24 hours.
