Lakeville South Basketball Tournament Rules for 2018

National Federation of High School Basketball Rule Book and MYAS regulations will be followed except as noted below:

1. Halves will be 14 minutes stop time.

2. Halftime will be 3 minutes.

3. Time-outs will be 1 minute.

4. Each team is allowed 3 time-outs per game. Time-outs do not carry over into overtime.

5. Each team is allowed 1 time-out per overtime.

6. The first overtime will be 2 minutes. The second overtime will be sudden death. The first team to score a free throw or a field goal will be the winner except for championship games. Championship games will utilize the full 2 minutes for each overtime needed.

7. Bonus free throws will be shot on the 7th foul of each half.

8. Two free throws will be shot on the 10th foul of each half.

9. For Technical Fouls, 2-points and the ball will be awarded. Technical fouls are not shot.

10. Players are allowed to play on one team only.

11. Players or coaches receiving 2 technical fouls in one game will be asked to leave the gym for the remainder of the game. 2 offenses will result in ejection from tournament & building.

12. Youth-sized basketballs (28.5”) will be used in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades.

13. 3-point baskets are allowed for all grades.

14. Defenses: (in accordance with MYAS Grade State Rules)

3rd and 4th grade may NOT full court press. They are also strongly encouraged but not required to play man-to-man defense in the half-court.

5th – 9th grade have no restrictions on full and half court defenses. No full‐court press if a team is ahead of their opponent by 20 or more points. After the first warning, the penalty for each violation of this rule will be a technical foul.

15. No full-court presses are permitted by a team that is ahead by more than 20 points.

16. Referees and/or tournament officials will resolve all disputes as they happen. All decisions are final and may not be appealed.

17. A minimum of 5 minutes is allowed for warm-ups. A grace period of 5 minutes will be allowed for your first game of the tournament only. Games may start early, so have all players ready 20 minutes prior to game time. Brackets posted at the site are the official bracket.

Any team that is not present and ready to play at the start of the game will forfeit (i.e. there is no grace period). A team must have 5 players on the floor to start the game.

18. There will be running time in the last 8minutes of the game when the difference in score is 20 points or greater. If the difference falls below 15, stop time will then be reinstated.

19. Abuse of referees from coaches, players and/or spectators will not be tolerated.

Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their players and fans. Referees and/or tournament officials reserve the right to remove such individuals from the premises and will not be allowed to return. Refusal to do so will result in forfeiture of the game.

20. Only two coaches, plus a team scorer, are permitted to sit on the bench

21. The Home Team supplies scorekeeper and must sit at scorer’s table. The Home Team is at the top of each bracket in bracket play and the first team listed in pool play.

Note: As a matter of courtesy and respect to the coaches and players playing a particular game, no other individuals will be allowed on the court during time-outs, between halves or games.
