2006 DYB RULES: T-BALL

The main objective of the T-Ball level is to expose young boys and girls to the sport of baseball. Our purpose is for them to have fun and to begin learning the game. To this end, maintaining a score book and/or keeping score is not allowed. All games end in a “tie.”.

1.  Have fun!!

2.  Games are three innings or 1 hour 15 minutes, whichever is shorter.

3.  The team at bat may have only 2 players standing-- the batter and the on-deck batter. All others must remain on the bench for safety reasons.

4.  All batters and base runners must wear a batting helmet. All players must wear their own baseball cap under the helmet at all times.

5.  For the first two games, all batting will be from a tee with no balls or strikes. The tee should be adjusted to such a height that the batter will be able to swing level.

6.  As the season progresses (3rd or 4th game) coaches may begin to pitch underhand to the batters. If the batter is unsuccessful after 5 attempts, go back to the tee). Please keep the game moving along!!

7.  After 4-5 games, the goal would be to be able to pitch overhand (from a short distance) to as many players as possible (again using the underhand toss or tee as necessary with a 5 pitch limit).

8.  A player bats until a ball is hit into fair ground.

9.  Batters advance one base at a time, with the exception of the final batter in each half-inning, who hits a “homerun” to clear the bases. (Note: Make certain that each of your players gets at least one chance to bat first and one chance to bat last during the season. Batting order does not matter.)

10.  An inning is over after all players have batted once in that inning. Outs are not counted (player who makes an “out” remains on base and scores a run).

11.  All team members play in the field every inning. (If the playing field becomes too crowded, consider taking half the players out into the outfield and playing a game or practicing with them and then rotate the next inning.)

12.  Coach and/or volunteers should be out in the field with the players at all times.

13.  Players must be rotated from position to position and from outfield to infield throughout the game.

14.  No walks, steals or bunts.

15.  No leading from the bases. Runners can not leave a base until the batter hits a ball.

16.  Overthrows at any base cannot be advanced.

17.  Rainouts are at the discretion of the team coaches. Contact the Commissioners if you wish to make-up a rained out game.
