Key Stage Two pupils can work individually or in small groups to build their own compositions by placing sounds, rhythms and riffs onto the tracks of a wheel. They can make their compositions in different musical styles by entering each of five musical zones: Megamix, Classical, Chillout, Vocal and World. They can listen to and refine their compositions as they play and mix them by altering volume and panning left and right. Compositions can be saved in the Groove Gallery or Favourites menu of their browser. The game could be used within the QCA Music Units: Play it Again and Rhythmic Cycles

Becta's Music Inset day: http://forum.ngfl.gov.uk/

Scroll down the page to find TOP Music Inset. The 'MIDI and vocal work'

section is especially good. You'll need to download the free VanBasco

Karaoke player: www.vanbasco.com

The 'Teaching activities' section has songs for KS1 and 2 , linked to Music units. The Karaoke window highlights the words in time with the melody (click to make full screen), and a separate window displays MIDI tracks. As the children learn the song, you can turn off the instruments

playing the melody, so that just the accompaniment is playing.
