Dear Mapleton Senior:

Thank you for your interest in the Mapleton Education Foundation scholarship program!

The mission of the Mapleton Education Foundation is to provide students with access to resources and opportunities necessary to achieve their potential. One element of this mission is increasing postsecondary access. This year, the Mapleton Education Foundation will provide over $50,000 in scholarship support to Mapleton graduates. Based on data from past years’ scholarship recipients, we have increased the amount of individual scholarship awards. Specifically, we will fund Legacy scholarships of up to $5,000, which is more than double the amount of last year’s highest award. We hope that these higher award amounts will help more Mapleton students attend college or other postsecondary programs.

The enclosed application packet describes the available scholarship opportunities. Each scholarship has its own eligibility criteria and application requirements, which are detailed in the enclosed packet. Applications are due on Thursday, March 13, 2014, by 4 p.m. and must be delivered or mailed to the Foundation’s offices, located at 8980 York Street, Thornton, CO 80229 (in the Mapleton Early College building). Hand-delivered applications may be left at Mapleton Early College’s front desk. Additional deadlines may be set by your individual post- secondary options coaches. Please note that all finalists will be expected to participate in an interview process in April.

Every applicant must apply for a Legacy Scholarship. You may apply for as many additional scholarships as you wish, provided that you meet the eligibility criteria. To ensure that as many students as possible receive scholarship support, only one scholarship will be awarded per applicant (except in rare circumstances). Descriptions of available scholarships begin on page 6.

Please review the enclosed packet carefully. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Foundation or your postsecondary options coach.

Finally, the Foundation is delighted to announce a matching scholarship agreement with the University of Colorado Boulder. Under the terms of this agreement, all Mapleton Education Foundation scholarship recipients will receive matching funds from the University of Colorado Boulder. For details about this partnership, please contact the Foundation. Please check the Foundation’s website for information about additional matching scholarship opportunities, which may be available in spring or summer 2014.

Thank you for your interest in our scholarship program – we are thrilled to support you as you pursue your dreams!

Sincerely,

Hilary Sontag

Executive Director
