Universal Wireless Dual Microphone

User Guide

Congratulations on your purchase of Datel’s Universal Wireless Dual Microphone.

This set includes everything you need to enjoy professional quality singing freedom in any PS3® or Wii™ game that makes use of a microphone, including Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band and Singstar.

Getting Started

1. Insert Batteries into the Microphones

Remove the battery cover from the base of each microphone and add one PP3 (9v) battery. Check that you insert the battery the right way around, as indicated by the legend on the side of the moulding.

Power LEDs

The mics have a power LED above the power switch. When you turn the mics on (by sliding the switch all the way forward):

If the LED flashes briefly… / If the LED illuminates constantly… / If the LED doesn’t illuminate at all…
Batteries are well charged / Batteries are running low / Batteries are flat or installed incorrectly.
IMPORTANT: Remember to turn the microphones off when you are not using them otherwise the batteries will become flat very quickly.

2. Put the Receiver Switch in the Correct Position

The wireless receiver has a switch on the back which must be in the correct position for the game you will be playing.

Important:

·  Set the switch position on the receiver before you connect it to your console.

·  If you change the switch position, disconnect and then reconnect the receiver.

Which switch position to use:

SWITCH POSITION 1
Any Singstar game /
SWITCH POSITION 2
All other games
Including Rock Band, Guitar Hero World Tour, Boogie, Disney Sing-It and others.
Important: It is NOT possible to switch between positions while still connected to your console. Any changes to the switch position will NOT be recognised until the receiver USB lead is disconnected and then re-connected to your console.

3. Connect the Wireless Receiver

Connect the wireless receiver to your Wii or PS3 console using the USB cable supplied. One end of the cable connects to the small USB port on the back of the receiver and the other end to a free USB port on your console.

4. Set the Volume Controls

The wireless receiver has two separate volume controls on the front of the receiver. Use the controls to set the volume of each of the two microphones. For normal use, set the volume controls to their highest setting and then turn down individually if you need to change the balance.

You’re now ready to start your game.

Using the Microphones

Holding the Microphone Correctly

The microphones are designed to work best when held at a distance of 3cm (about an inch) from your mouth. If you hold the microphone closer, distortion will occur.

Volume Levels in Different Games

The Universal Wireless Dual Microphones have been designed to supply the correct volume level for a wide range of games. When using the microphones please be aware that some games like Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band use the microphone to test your vocal accuracy and are not Karaoke games. As such your voice is never intended to sound loud in the game.

Games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour allow you to change the mic volume and sensitivity but even at their maximum levels the mic is not supposed to be loud in the game’s audio output. In this respect, the Universal Wireless Dual Microphones match the behaviour of the original wired microphones available for these games.

Using Both Microphones

One of the great features of the Universal Wireless Dual Microphone set is that you can use two microphones in games like Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band that would normally support only one microphone. This is achieved by mixing the input from the two microphones before sending the signal to the game meaning that both players will both have to hit the notes to succeed! Simply switch both microphones on and proceed as if you were using just one mic.

When using the microphones with Singstar, both microphones will register as separate devices just as they would if you were using the original wired Singstar mics. Wireless mic ‘B’ will be the ‘Blue’ Singstar player and Wireless mic ‘A’ will be the ‘Red’ player.

Troubleshooting

Reading the information in the previous sections should help you to avoid any common problems with the use of the Universal Wireless Dual Microphone system. If you do experience a problem, please re-read the information in this manual and check the troubleshooting guide below.

For all connection problems, first check the following points:

1.  Check that the batteries are inserted correctly into the microphones.

2.  Check that the batteries are not flat. They will become flat if the microphones are left switched on for a long period of time.

3.  Check that the USB cable is properly connected to a free USB port on your console and to the wireless receiver.

4.  Check that the microphones are switched on (push the switch all the way forward).

The microphones are not recognised by Singstar

The switch, located on the back of the wireless receiver box, must be in position ‘1’ for the microphones to be recognised by any Singstar game. Ensure the switch is in position ‘1’. If you change the switch position you must disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to reboot the it.

Only one microphone works in Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band, Boogie, or Sing-It

1.  Check that the switch, located on the back of the wireless receiver box, is in position ‘2’. If you change the switch position you must disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to reboot the receiver.

2.  Check that the none-functioning microphone has its battery installed correctly and that its volume control is turned up.

The microphones are not as loud as I want them

Certain games, like Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour are not Karaoke games and as such your voice is not supposed to be loud in the game. Set the volume controls at their highest setting and turn the mic volume and sensitivity up in-game (where possible). Beyond this, the microphone level is restricted by the game and cannot be increased further. This is the normal behaviour of the game and not a limitation of the microphones.

In the Singstar games the microphones provide a good audio level but their volume is still controlled by the game and cannot be set higher than a certain point.

My voice sounds distorted

The professional style microphones included in the set have a sensitive pick-up and should be held around 3cm (1 inch) from your mouth. If you hold the microphone closer than that the signal will become distorted. Move the microphone slightly away from your mouth for clear, sharp reproduction.
