HOW TO COMPLETE A 104-R
Filling out a 104-R can be confusing and time consuming, but by taking it slowly and having a clear understanding of your goals you can complete an effective plan for graduation. Whether you are planning for 2, 3, or 4 years, these instructions should aid you in this process. Note that you should first fill in all the necessary military science classes for each term, if it hasn’t already been filled in for you.
1. First of all, print out your degree audit, which can be found in your Duckweb account (duckweb.uoregon.edu). This is a helpful tool, even if you haven’t completed any classes yet, because it outlines the requirements of each area of classes you need to take as mandated by the university. *Special note for transfer students: you will need to access your Transfer Evaluation Report on Duckweb and check which of your classes you’ve already taken will be accepted by the university. The group requirements can be found in the course catalog, which you can access by visiting uoregon.edu, clicking on “current students” then “course catalog”. On the left hand side select “Registration and Academic Policies”. This will list every class you could take that would fulfill each group requirement.
There are three multicultural groups, as well as three general groups (arts and letters, science and social science). There is also a writing requirement (WR 121, 122, or 123), as well as many others, so it is a good idea to make your own list of the classes you would want to take that would fill these requirements. Get these classes planned right away if you can. Always try and double-dip, meaning try to choose classes that fill more than one group req. Usually the class descriptions will tell you what group requirements they fill.
2. You also need to be looking at your degree requirements. As some degrees require more credits than others, you need to plan your classes according to what is necessary for your degree, and plan these in tandem with the university group requirements. It would also help immensely to talk with your department counselor as they would be able to guide you on a path for your degree.
3. Now the tedious part begins. Once you have outlined for yourself what types of classes are needed for your group and degree requirements, get onto the university web page at uoregon.edu and click on “current students” and “course catalog”. That is a list of all majors and what classes are offered for each. Find your major and begin reading the class descriptions. Choose classes to fill in on the 104-R, getting the prerequisites down first, as instructed by your major.
4. In planning your classes you can also look at projected course offerings, which will tell you which terms certain classes are offered. You can access this by going to the UO home page, selecting “current students”, then “class schedule”, then “projected course offerings”. The “prior class schedule” link will let you take a look at when classes have been offered in the past, and at what times, so this may give you a better look at what is probable for the future.
5. A good way to plan your 4 years is to fill up each term with 18 to 21 credits of your necessary classes (Military science included) and plan this year, then the next and so on. Once you have plugged in your classes and met the credit requirements for your degree and graduation, then go ahead and spread the classes out across the 4 years, allowing yourself terms where you have room for electives and less credit loads. There are many fun electives offered here, but make sure you take required classes in tandem with these and don’t lose focus of your degree.
6. Lastly, you can always ask for help in filling out your 104-R from your military science advisor or even head over to Academic Advising and check with an advisor there to make sure you are tracking with university requirements. Also, remember that what you write now is not carved in stone. You will find that as the terms come and go that some classes aren’t offered when you planned them, or you decide to try different electives from what you’ve planned. This is OK, but keep your 104-R current! When these changes happen, make the adjustment to your 104-R and keep checking to make sure your plan still fits with a punctual graduation.

When registering for classes, you can find out when registration is open to you by logging into Duckweb, selecting the “Registration Menu”, and then “Check Registration Eligibility”. Select the correct term, and you will be provided with your registration eligibility.
Departments usually have their own checklists of credits necessary for your degree, so make sure you visit your advisor and refer to these guidelines
Ask other cadets for help! Chances are there is someone else who has the same major as you and has already had to complete a 104-R. It is a lot more convenient to have a model to look at and pick classes from. If the process gets too confusing or frustrating, there is always someone else, cadre or cadet, who would be willing to help.
