Skydivers will abide by Iowa State University rules and regulations, state and federal laws.
1. Name
ISU Skydivers Club
2. Purpose
To allow members of the Iowa State University community to experience the sport of skydiving and to provide an opportunity for people to share their interest in the sport, to develop experiences, and to further the bond created by skydiving together.
3. Membership
Anyone, including off-campus members of the Iowa State University community, is eligible for membership in this organization. In any term, an active member is one who has attended at least one club activity in the current term or a preceding term. At least six Iowa State University students must be enrolled as members at all times.
Hazing is not allowed, and all activities will be conducted in accordance with Iowa state law. The Skydivers is open to registered students at Iowa State and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, marital status, disability or status as a U.S. Veteran.
4. Officers/Elections
The ISU Skydivers Club will have a minimum of three officers:
The President shall represent the club before any other organization and to Iowa State University. The President will schedule meetings and publicize the club’s activities.
The Vice President shall record and retain records of the club’s meetings and activities.
The Treasurer shall be responsible for the club’s finances. The Treasurer will sign all checks and vouchers for the club.
All offices must be filled by members of the Iowa State University community.
These officers should ensure the smooth running and continuation of the club, including: keeping the club in good standing with Iowa State University, with the Student Organizations of ISU, and with USPA; managing club funds; recruiting new members; and facilitating skydive training and trips to the drop zone.
The officers will be elected in the spring for the following academic year. Any active member is eligible to run for office. For election purposes, a quorum is one-quarter of all active members. Officers are elected by a majority of the voting members. If more than two people are running for an office and no one wins a majority, then the person with the fewest votes is dropped from the ballot and votes are cast again.
Officers may be removed by a two-thirds vote of the members.
In the event that an officer is removed from office there will be an immediate nomination held at the next scheduled meeting. The following meeting after that a new officer will be elected by a majority vote, and will hold office until the termination of the current term.
Officer Requirements:
(a) Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) as stated below and meet that minimum GPA in the semester immediately prior to the election/appointment, the semester of election/appointment and semesters during the term of office. For undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, the minimum GPA is 2.00. In order for this provision to be met, at least six hours (half-time credits) must have been taken for the semester under consideration.
(b) Be in good standing with the university and enrolled: at least half time(six or more credit hours), if an undergraduate student (unless fewer credits are required to graduate in the spring and fall semesters) during the term of office, and at least half time (four or more credits), if a graduate level student (unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of their degree as defined by the Continuous Registration Requirement) during their term of office.
(c) Be ineligible to hold an office should the student fail to maintain the requirements as prescribed in (a) and (b)."
Advisor Duties:
(a) Maintain communication and meet with officers regularly
(b) Maintain awareness and approval of financial expenditures
(c) Ensure that the organization is operating in conformity with the standards set forth by the Iowa State University and Student Activities center
Advisor Election/ Appointment:
The term of the advisor will be one full year (from August to August). The advisor will be selected by the officers and then voted on by the general membership. A majority vote is needed for an advisor to be selected.
5. Meetings
At least one general club meeting will be held each term on the Iowa State University campus. Meetings shall be organized and presided over by the President, unless absent, in which case the Vice President shall preside. A quorum shall be one-quarter of the membership. All decisions shall be made by majority vote of the members present.
6. Constitutional Amendments
Proposed amendments may be presented by any member of the club. Amendments shall be considered by a vote during a general meeting of the club. A quorum for a vote to amend the constitution shall be one-quarter of all active members. Amendments shall be approved by a majority vote of the members present.
7. Financial Matters
Finances for the club will be obtained through Iowa State University student activity funding, general membership dues (if applied) and other club-approved, low-risk fund-raising activities. Dues shall not exceed $40.00 per year.
All monies belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization at the Campus Organizations Accounting Office and/or approved institution/office (must receive authorization via Campus Organizations Accounting Office). All funds must be deposited within 48 hours after collection. The Adviser to this organization must approve and sign each expenditure before payment.
8. USPA Clause
The club will be a Group Member in good standing of the U.S. Parachute Association. The club will affiliate with a skydiving school or center that is a current USPA Group Member facility. All members will observe and abide by USPA’s Basic Safety Requirements for skydiving and skydive training.
9. [ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES] Clause
As an Iowa State University student organization, the members and the officers agree to abide by the rulings of the GSB. This constitution, amendments, and by-laws of this organization are subject to review by the GSB to ensure conformity with Iowa State University rules and regulations.
