Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to gain a better understanding of the world in which we live through the study of European history and political traditions. Because much of American political structure, style, and tradition is based upon European models, an understanding of Europe’s history is essential.
Materials
· Textbook (World History: Patterns of Interaction - McDougal Littell)
· A binder or notebook for Global Studies notes ONLY
· One black marble composition notebook for global studies homework only
Grading
§ Tests and Quizzes 50%
Tests will be administered after a significant amount of material is covered. Students absent on the day a test is administered will be required to take a make-up test in Saturday study hall.
Quizzes will be given with or without notice. No make-ups will be given for quizzes.
§ Written assignments and homework 25%
Written assignments will be collected and graded. Each week’s homework assignments will be posted on my web page which can be accessed through the school’s web site. (It is suggested that you add it to your favorites list.) All homework is to be done in the black marble composition notebook for global studies homework unless otherwise specified. There will be regular homework quizzes for which students will be permitted to use their notebooks. Students are not permitted to utilize any work not completed in the notebook
§ Quarter Assignment 25%
The first quarter project will focus on Latin America. (See separate directions.)

Notes
§ Class participation is encouraged and expected.
§ Students are expected to come to class prepared with all materials each day. Students will not be permitted to go to their lockers during class.
§ Students are encouraged to keep bathroom visits during class to a minimum. Each student is given four bathroom passes – one for each quarter. Unused passes may be redeemed for extra credit at the end of the year.
§ Students are encouraged to use their laptop computers in class and will be required to do so often. When using laptops in class, students are only allowed to be using software or an internet site related to class. Students who use their laptops improperly will lose the privilege of using it in class for THE REST OF THE YEAR.

§ Be aware that in June you are required to pass the Regents examination in Global Studies which is cumulative, covering information from ninth and tenth grade Global Studies. (Do not worry, however, we will review for the exam.) This will also count as your final exam.
