Event Director Application

Pride Awareness Month, otherwise known as “PAM,” is an annual month-long series of events focused on highlighting the culture and lives of the individuals that make up the LGBTQ community at the University of Florida. Each April, PAM hosts socials, forums, speakers, and performances aimed at celebrating our community while also increasing awareness, acceptance, and ally-ship. Pride Awareness Month has been going strong for over ten years, and is very unique as one of the largest student-run LGBTQ series of events across the country.

The 2011 Pride Awareness Month Staff is comprised of the five Overall Directors(Director, Internal Assistant Director, External Assistant Director, Finance Director, and Marketing Director) and the various individual Event Directors that make up PAM.

This application serves to recruit the 2011 Event Directors and Marketing Assistant Director(s).

Position Descriptions

Speakers Director(s)

  • Coordinates the recruitment of thought-provoking and entertaining speakers and headliners
  • Speakers include, but are not limited to, writers, educators, lecturers, activists, spoken word performers, music artists, etc

Film Festival Director(s)

  • Coordinates the screening of at least two queer films for the month

Drag Show Director(s)

  • Coordinates a full-fledged drag show featuring professional and amateur female and male impersonators (i.e. drag kings and queens)

Masquerade Director(s)

  • Coordinates a formal masquerade-themed celebratory event

Service Director(s)

  • Coordinates at least one major service project or philanthropythat supports a local or national queer organization

CeremoniesDirector(s)

  • Coordinates the opening and closing ceremonies

Paint Your Orgasm Director(s)

  • Coordinates our annual event that celebrates sexual expression and identity; this event is sometimes paired with an attached evening spoken word event with poetry, skits, monologues, etc

Talent Show Director(s)

  • Coordinates the selection of local LGBTQ-friendly performers and execution of the production

Activism Director(s)

  • Coordinates any flash mobs and activities that showcase issues the LGBTQ community faces

Special Events Director(s)

  • Coordinates special events that range from small to large; assist the External Director with cosponsored events

Marketing AssistantDirector(s)

  • Assists the Marketing Director and Advertising Director in creating visibility for the month

All Directors

  • Will be expected to be available on Thursday, November 18th (afternoon)for a Meet and Greet with the staff!
  • Meet regularly with all PAM staff at weekly meetings (most likely Tues or Thurs. nights) during the spring semester.
  • Attend the 2011 PAM Staff Retreat (tentatively) for Friday, Dec ember 3rd to Sunday, December5th – save the date!

Applications will be due no later than Tuesday, November16th 2010 by 5PM to Ricky Carter, 2011 PAM Director . You will be notified of the status of your application no later than Wednesday, November17th. All selected event directors will be expected to be available on Thursday, November 18thfor a Meet and Greet with the staff!

If you are selected, please remember to make sure you have space in your spring 2011 semester schedule for weekly meetings either on Tuesday or Thursday nights. We will determine the actual meeting day before the end of the fall semester. Please also make sure you save the date for our tentative retreat for December3rd – 5th2010.The retreat may or may not last all of these days.
