Members Present: Katy Rodgers, Victoria Sanchez, Cecilia Allen, Isabel Montes, Ashley Kolb, Susan Shafer, Angela Smith, Catherine Quinn, Alean Zufall, Lori Frodine, Mary Stancel, Barbara Haverkamp, Kris Denning.

The principal opened the meeting by informing the committee of the role and responsibility of the SDMC. It is a voting body for school policy and some issues come from the district for feedback, such as the Appraisal System from last year.

SIP: The committee reviewed the SIP Part 2 – Action Plan (goals). Goals 1 and 2 are similar in that they are specifically about academic achievement in Math and Reading as pertains to STAAR. Goal 3 pertains to the “Your Voice Survey” and the lowest point scored by students. We scored 62% on “classes are challenging”. Measures are in place to address this issue. Goal 4 addresses Attendance. Our goal is to increase attendance from 97% to 98%. Goal 5 deals with reducing suspensions, in and out of school. We will use the Counselor for interventions and a bullying campaign. We will bring in Crime Stoppers on early dismissal days to present programs.

Our Bilingual team will work together this year to help our bilingual students have more of a support system. They will have parent workshops, home visits, etc.

Dress Code: Issues have been raised regarding the enforcement of the Dress Code. The first matter discussed was to change “navy” shirt to also include light blue. The committee voted to leave the color only navy for the color of blue shirt. There was discussion over the enforcement of the dress code to be Saturday Detention after 3 infractions. Some thought that too harsh for Kinder and 1st graders. The principal agreed to review the consequences and take it back to the Leadership Council to revise. It was suggested we might try a lesser consequence during the initial enforcement phase.

Meeting dates: We will attempt to have monthly meetings on the 1st Thursday of the month. The next meeting will be October 3, at 3:30 in the Library.

Respectfully submitted,

Alean Zufall, Secretary
