Dear Masco Alumni,
Greetings and well wishes from the Masconomet Alumni Association!
As we have done in the past, we ask those who are able to please contribute $20.00 or more to the Alumni Association to help us continue our mission. Many of you have given generously and we wish to thank all of you for your contributions. If you are in a position to donate again this year we hope that you will take a moment to send a check using the form at the bottom of this letter or use our PayPal link at mascoalumni.org. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Many great things happened in the years of 2013 to 2014 for both our High School and the Masco Alumni Association. Some of the highlights are as follows:
ALUMNI ACTIVITIES:
The Alumni Assoc. hosted a successful Roaring 20's Reunion at the Topsfield Fairgrounds for the classes of 1960 to 1979. Approximately 285 classmates came together on a perfect summer evening and enjoyed music, dancing, food and lots of catching up with old friends. These multi-class reunions have begun to take on a legendary status as our years pass by more quickly and news spreads of this big event. They are a great way to wrap individual class milestones (35th, 40th, 45th, and 50th) into this one big reunion. The Association hopes word will continue to travel amongst our fellow grads as we look forward to the next multi-class Reunion in 2016.
In addition to planning the reunions, The Alumni Assoc. continues to donate funds to various school projects. Our latest endeavor is a $2500.00 donation to Masco towards a new electronic sign that Masco plans to purchase and construct in front of the high school.
CURRENT MASCO HAPPENINGS:
Social Studies
2004 Masco grad and current Grade 8 Social Studies Teacher Andrew Boepple was honored with the William Spratt Award for Excellence in teaching Middle School Social Studies. He has been teaching at Masconomet for 5 years.
The Arts
2001 Masco alum, Matt DeAngelis was recently in Boston performing in the musical Once and was selected to sing the National Anthem at the Boston Celtics game this past January 13th.
1977 grads Donna Murphy & Lance Rogers continue to shine as talented actors on the stage and screen. Donna recently joined the cast of CBS's "The Good Wife" and Lance had a roll in NBC's "Law and Order" and starred as the cowardly Lion in "The Wizard of Oz" at the North Shore Music Theater last summer.
Community and Vocational
Masconomet students continue the annual tradition of the placing and arranging of the flags on the Masco campus for the 9/11 remembrance.
The Masconomet Pupil Personnel Services Department, in collaboration with Whiteson's Food Services, has established the Coffee Café - a place where students get hands on practice with managing money, processing inventory and putting vocational skills to use. The Coffee Café is open for business every Friday morning serving staff members fresh coffee, bagels and the muffin of the day.
Sports
The Masco Girls' field hockey team won the Cape Ann Championship for the second year in a row.
The Boys' Hockey Team is the CAL Champion for the 2013-2014 season.
The Boys' Indoor Track Team continues its success with records being broken this season in both the 2-mile and the 4 X 400 team events.
The Girls' Lacrosse team had an exceptional year in 2013 with a 15-5 overall record.
The Swim and Dive Team clinched its first league championship in 16 years, a great accomplishment and testament to the hard work of the team and Coach Hanchett who was selected the Boston Globe Division I Swim Coach of the Year. The team was also the recipient of the MIAA Division OneTeam Sportsmanship Award and set two new school records in the 200m freestyle and in the 50m freestyle events.
Coach Romano's Girls basketball team won the Cape Ann Championship with a 20-2 record.
The 2013 Boys' Baseball Team won the Cape Ann League Championship and went on to win the Division 2 North State Championship. Speros Varinos was named CAL Baseball Player of the Year with a 10-1 pitching record and a .461 batting average.
