Creating a Brochure with Open Office Writer:

q  Under File open a new Text document.

q  Under the Format menu open Page.

q  Change the orientation to Landscape (horizontal)

à click OK.

q  Under Page Set up change the top and bottom margins to 2.5 cm.

q  Change the left and right margins to 1.3 cm à click OK.

q  Under Format menu open Page.

q  Select Columns

q  Change the number of columns to 3

à click OK.

Adding text:

q  For column 1 type text in space provided.

q  To add text to column 2 move the cursor down to the bottom of column 1, using your return key. Repeat for column 3 or go to Insert -> Break -> column break.

Formatting text:

Highlight the desired text. Then click the icons at the top of your screen to change the font, size, style and alignment of your text.

Layout and design:

q  Plan your brochure according to the suggested layout

q  Use bullets, point form and pictures to create open space in your brochure (too much text discourages the reader).

q  Use headings to clearly indicate the different sections of your brochure

q  Use one font throughout your document, add emphasis by changing

the size, bolding or underlining some parts.

Adding graphics:

q  Pull down Insert to Picture.

q  Select Clipart. Art options are on the left, choose a graphic and click insert.

q  Move graphic by dragging the center.

q  Resize graphic by dragging a handle-point.

q  If you want the text to wrap around the graphic, click on the image then under the Format menu click on picture, then wrapping, finally choose style.

Note: You can also insert clip art from other sources (clip art CDs, Internet, etc…) or

copy and paste graphics from other applications.
