Large Jigsaw Puzzles

Activity: Character Freeze

Joeys move around (skipping, jumping, hopping) Leader calls FREEZE then tells them when they melt they have to – make their bed, pick up the toys, take plates to the sink, rake leaves, put the rubbish in the bin etc Joeys act out with Leader.

Game: Bringing in the Washing

Joeys in relay formation. Joeys are helping Mum to hang out the washing. Take turns to hang up on clothes line. Leader tells then a story about Mum who is busy and it has started to rain - OH NO!!! The washing is getting WET!! Take it in turns to bring in the washing and fold it. Match the socks.

Game: HOP Dice

Joeys standing in circle. Take it in turns to throw the HOP dice and say words directed on the dice. HOP – hop and say Help Other People, PROMISE – say promise, LAW – say the law.

Craft: Helping Hands

A yellow rubber glove for each Joey. Stuffing or wadding. Joeys stuff the glove with the wadding. Staple bottom shut with stapler. Add a small card with the words “HELP OTHER PEOPLE” between thumb and first finger using a split pin.

Story: Helping Hand
Each finger thinks that it is the most important. The pointer because it points at everything (point) The middle finger because it is the tallest (show), the ring finger because it wears a ring and the little finger because it can get in all those small places(stick in nose and ear) The thumb quietly listens and then challenges each finger to pick up something. They can’t! So then he shows them that if they help each other they can pick things up (demonstrate with each finger). The moral is we all need to help each other.

Activity: How Do You Help Box?

Joeys seated in circle. Take it in turns to say how they would help with the object they pick from the box. Sticker for good responses.

Puppet Play:

Looking For a Mate: Leaders each take a part to tell the story about the gloves.
