1 Definition

2 Range

This unit standard includes the following model fuel injection pumps – ECD-V3, ECD-V4.

Outcomes and performance criteria

Outcome 1

Demonstrate knowledge of Denso ECD fuel injection pumps.

Performance criteria

1.1 Pump construction is described in accordance with service information.

Range distributor type features, identification of components, layout of components.

1.2 Pump operation is explained in accordance with service information.

Range pumping action, control of fuel injection volume, sensors, electronic control unit, actuators, fuel injection timing.

1.3 The importance of cleanliness when working with fuel injection components is identified in accordance with service information.

Range contamination, precise machining tolerances and close operating fits of components, damage and premature failure.

1.4 Faults which affect the fuel pump operation are described in accordance with service information.

Range fuel contamination, misalignment of fuel pump and drive train, sensor faults, injector seal leakage, incorrect adjustments.

1.5 Wear patterns on components are described in accordance with service information.

Range fuel contamination, misalignment, lack of lubrication, corrosion, abrasion, cavitation.

1.6 Pump repair procedures are described in accordance with service information.

Range cleaning, testing, dismantling, overhauling, replacing electronic controls, reassembling.

This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
