A.Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Mr. Lowe at 5:02PM.

B.Recognitions and Awards

Mr. Keefer recognized the HECS Certified Staff Member of the Month, Mrs. Carol Olthoff, 5th grade teacher. Mr. Keefer also recognized the Classified Staff Member of the Month, Mrs. Lynn Nichols, Kindergarten Paraprofessional.

C.Approval of Minutes

The November minutes were approved with no corrections. Motion by Mrs. Mitcham, seconded by Mr. Flournoy. Motion passed unanimously.

D.Financial Report

Mr. Keefer presented the financial report, detailing the Title I planned expenditures for FY17.

E.PTO Update

Mr. Keefer provided a PTO update of upcoming events, specifically the Santa Shop and Sweetheart Dance.

F.Items for Action

a. Field Trip Approval Request for 1stgrade to Atlanta Children’s Museum, January 6, 2017.

Mr. Keefer shared the proposal of this field trip. The motion was made by Mr. Flournoy and seconded by Mrs. Jordan. The motion passed unanimously.

G.Discussion Items and Items for Study

  1. LKES Goals for Principal, Mrs. Natalie Gore, Elementary Executive Officer, Henry County Schools

Mrs. Gore facilitated a discussion regarding LKES goals for Mr. Keefer as part of the principal evaluation element of the school charter. Governance Council suggested a goal related to increased parental involvement. After discussion, the agreed upon goals are, “To increase parental involvement and understanding for the purpose of increased participation”.

b. Personalized Learning Update

Mr. Keefer shared with the council Henry County Schools’ decision to approve the application of HECS for Personalized Learning Cohort 18. The next step will be a kickoff meeting for all Cohort 18 schools in January.

  1. HECS Renovation Update

Mr. Keefer updated the governance council on the updated timeline of the renovations currently underway at HECS. The construction lead foreman expects to complete renovations on time in preparation for the 17-18 school year.

  1. Governance Council Training Part 2 Discussion: January 18, 2017

Mr. Keefer shared that Griffin RESA was contacted regarding the request for Governance Council training to occur January 18, 2017, and that Dr. John Decotis confirmed this date. The training will take place from 9AM-3:30PM in the conference room.

  1. Upcoming Events at HECS

Mr. Keefer shared a schedule of upcoming events at HECS and invited governance council to attend as many dates as possible. Governance council members agreed to support these events and to spread word of them throughout the community.

H.General Discussion of Council Members

A discussion was held regarding the potential for HECS to host a PreK class beginning in the 17-18 school year. Mr. Keefer and Mrs. Gore shared the timeline and process for this class, sharing that the application to the state was submitted by Henry County Schools, application status would be shared in June, and if approved, the application process for students would begin in July.
