CUSTOMER PREPARATION LIST

PRIOR TO YOUR START DATE OF INSTALLATION, SANDING OR REFINISHING

  1. You may need to vacate the home up to 3-7 days
  2. Provide a contact information sheet with contact phone numbers, hotel info, etc.
  3. Provide access to keys, alarm codes, gate codes or lock box.
  4. Make sure gas lines are turned off. Let the Hardwood Mechanic know what appliances are run on the gas such as: stove, water heater, fireplace, furnace etc.
  5. Remove opened food from hardwood area. Place in garage.
  6. Make sure you have all of your medications.
  7. Move plants to vented room or garage.
  8. All animals must be removed from the home (dogs, cats, rodents, etc)
  9. Fish tanks must be ventilated with fresh air or removed from the home.
  10. All furniture should be removed from the hardwood area.
  11. Counter tops and shelves should be cleared and breakable items and pictures should be removed from the walls.
  12. Pianos, computers and electronic devices should be covered with sheets.
  13. Access to bathroom and adequate parking are mandatory.
  14. Access to 220 plugs (dryer or stove areas) is needed and access to the breaker box.
  15. If you are not available the first or second day of the job to pick a stain color, then you will need to schedule an appointment with us prior to you leaving town. All jobs must have a signed off stain selection sheet.
  16. The crawl space should have installation black plastic and have no standing water. If this problem exists, you must notify James Schultz Hardwood Flooring.
  17. Installation of new hardwood- the subfloor moisture must be 12% or below. The flooring mechanic can check with a moisture meter. High moisture can cause cupping.
  18. Water and gas lines that need to be disconnected may need licensed plumber or electrician for reconnection.

EXPECTATION AND MAINTENANCE SHEET

  1. Air the house out prior to entering
  2. Wear socks for the first 3 days
  3. No furniture on the flooring for the first 3 days
  4. No rugs on the flooring for the first 30 days
  5. Expect dust on the hardwood areas (you will need to do some cleaning)
  6. Never have your heat below 62 degrees year round
  7. Finishes are applied in an uncontrolled environment. It is impossible not to have some irregularities like:
  8. Debris in the finish (this will walk out)
  9. Blemishes or uneven sheen
  10. Puddling or lap lines
  11. Brush marks

These should be minor and will dissipate within 90-120 days

  1. Minor sanding marks and or swirl marks may be visible at first. A floor is not going to have table top furniture finish. There may be rough spots.
  2. If the floor was stained, there may be slight blotchiness which should dissipate in 90 to 120 days.
  3. Hardwood floors should never be cleaned with oil or wax cleaners. Use only a hardwood mop.
  4. You can use Woodwise or Vinegar Water (1 cup vinegar to 1 gallon of water) and a lightly damp mop.
  5. In the first year or two there may be expansion and contraction of the flooring (hairline cracks between the boards). There may be some cracking and popping noises. This is normal.
  6. We do not guarantee water connections that we hook up.
  7. You may have some minor nics or marks on the walls and if your painted baseboards were removed and reset, you will have some paint touch-ups or may need to repaint the walls and baseboards.
