Why Should We Pray?
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (King James Version)
Pray without ceasing.
- The Bible commands us to pray
- It is not a mere suggestion in God’s Word, it is something God mandates
- We are told to pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17).
- Why is God so interested in us spending much time in prayer?
- We Are Enlightened Through Prayer-
- Ephesians 1:18 (King James Version)
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, - God opens up the eyes of our understanding.
- God actually "enlightens" our understanding as we seek Him
- The word "enlighten" in the Greek New Testament is the word "photizo." Our word "photo" comes from that word. It is a perfect tense word, indicating it is something finished in the past with ongoing results.
- We Are Endued Through Prayer
- Acts 1:8 (King James Version)
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. - reminds us how the early church, in its infancy, was baptized with the power of God at Pentecost. They had to tarry and wait upon God for the promise. Finally, after seeking waiting on God in prayer, the power came for service.
- If you want to be a powerful Christian, it is essential that prayer is one of the main ingredients of your life.
- We Are Expectant In Prayer-
- Matthew 21:22 (King James Version)
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. - If we ask in faith, then we can expect to receive from the Lord
- The prayer of faith is not a waste of time
- It is like having the right key to open up the door
- We Are Engaged In Prayer-
- Notice again our text in I Thess. 5:17.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (King James Version)
Pray without ceasing. - It is a general command for all believers.
- Not all can
- preach
- teach
- sing,
- but everyone can be involved and engaged in the work of God by being a prayer warrior
- What a desperate need there is today for that kind of people!
- close
- We Are Encouraged Through Prayer-
- As we pray, it gives personal encouragement to our lives
- When we are trying to handle matters ourselves, we fail,
- but if we turn those things that are bigger than us over to God, then he takes the load and encourages our spirit
