Job Description: MFL Languages Assistant

Reports to: Head of Department

Salary: Ark Support scale5, £16, 904 - £20, 662, per annum, pro rata. Actual salary, £16, 485.28 - £20, 150.19, depending on experience.

Hours: Annualised contract- 41 hours per week, term time only

The Role

  • To work closely with the Head of MFL and languages team to help raise attainment and enhance the French language learning experience of students at all key stages.
  • To collaborate with classroom teachers to plan for high quality in class and withdrawal support for students of all abilities and at all key stages including native speakers of French.
  • To contribute to enrichment activities which help to raise the profile of Modern Languages across the academy.
  • To take responsibility for one or more teaching groups as agreed with the Head of Department.

Main activities include:

  • To work with the Head of Department and classroom teachers to create a nurturing environment which enables students of French to succeed.
  • To prepare students for the speaking component of public examinations.
  • To support classroom teaching in MFL by providing extension or support as appropriate.
  • To help develop the range of target language teaching resources preparing materials which also extend and interest native speakers of Frenchstudents.
  • To cover lessons for absent MFL staff under the supervision of the Head of Department.
  • To contribute to the enrichment programme and specific projects undertaken by the school involving the use of MFL.
  • Give students regular feedback which enables them to make rapid progress.
  • To provide opportunities for staff and students to enhance their appreciation of the

French culture.

  • To help to maintain/establish excellent standards of behaviour for learning across the Academy.

Qualification Criteria

  • Qualified to degree level
  • Qualified to work in the UK
  • Fluent speaker of French

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with young people in a school setting
  • Experience of preparing language teaching resources and materials
  • Knowledge of GCSE and A Level French curriculum and examination requirements

Desirable

  • Familiarity with a second foreign language.
