WT-5 / SMALL BOILER SYSTEMS LESS THAN 200 HP
WATER TREATMENT SPECIFICATION

1.0GENERAL:

1.1Contractor will furnish and install all equipment and chemicals and provide the necessary service for a TRIDENT TREATMENT PROGRAM. The single water treatment company shall be responsible for all products and services and be recognized as a specialist in the field of water treatment.

1.2The water treatment products and services shall be provided by TRIDENT TECHNOLOGIES, INC. Alternate suppliers will require written approval 30 days prior to the bid due date.

2.0PREOPERATIONAL SYSTEM CLEANOUT:

2.1Contractor shall not add or allow untreated water to enter or stand in the mechanical systems or piping prior to the preoperational phase of water treatment operations. In the event that it is necessary to hydrotest the piping system more than 24 hours prior to precleaning, a volatile vapor phase corrosion inhibitor prescribed by TRIDENT shall be introduced into the system and maintained at proper levels until the system is cleaned.

All cooling condenser, closed chilled, closed hot and boiler water systems and related piping shall be thoroughly flushed out with TRIDENT preoperational cleaning chemicals designed to remove deposition such as pipe dope, oils, loose rust and mill scale, and other extraneous materials. The recommended dosages of TRIDENT precleaning chemical products shall be added to the system, which will normally increase the pH to 10.0 to 11.0. System recirculating pumps, or temporary pumps are to be used. The cleaning solution is to be circulated throughout the system at a minimum velocity rate of 3 to 5 feet per second. The contractor shall insure that all parts of the system to be cleaned are exposed to the cleaning solution and that temporary strainers are in place during the cleaning phase. The cleaning solution should be circulated for 24 to 48 hours, depending on the system characteristics. The system should be flushed with clean water until no foreign matter is observed and pH, and alkalinity of the rinse water is equal to that of the makeup water. The iron content should be less than 1.0 mg per liter. Permanent corrosion inhibitors should be added immediately upon verification of completion of the final flush of the cleaning solution.

3.0BOILER CHEMICAL FEEDING AND CONTROL EQUIPMENT

3.1For each boiler, contractor shall install a chemical feeding system which consists of the following:

3.1.1Provide one positive displacement type, Pulsatron Series A Plus chemical pump, sized and selected for system chemical inhibitor demand and system pressure.

3.1.2Pump voltage 115 volts AC, 50/60 HZ. single phase, peak input power: 110 watts, average input power: 22 watts at maximum speed.

3.1.3Stroke length: Adjustable 0-100%, stroke frequency: adjustable, 5 to 100 strokes per minute.

3.1.4Liquid handling ends shall be ball-type check valves with materials of construction compatible with chemical characteristics. Suction and discharge tubing shall be included.

3.1.5One 65-gallon polyethylene secondary contained chemical tank with molded structural polyethylene cover.

3.1.6One chemical tank agitator. 115 volts AC, 50/60 HZ, 1.5 amp, 175 watts, 1/20 HP.

4.0WATER TREATMENT CHEMICALS - STEAM BOILER SYSTEM:

4.1Furnish one year's supply of the recommended TRIDENT formulas for control of scale deposition, corrosion and oxygen removal in the steam boiler and piping system. Provide additional products for the control of corrosion in steam condensate piping. The chemical products will be compatible with system materials of construction and operating conditions and will comply with all applicable regulatory agencies.

5.0TESTING EQUIPMENT:

5.1Furnish TRIDENT water test equipment, including spare reagents for maintaining control of program standards in the water systems outlined above. Test equipment will include the following:

5.1.1Reagents and apparatus for the determination of chemical levels in all water systems outlined above.

5.1.2Reagents and apparatus for the determination of pH, alkalinity, chlorides, and hardness.

5.1.3Conductivity meter with temperature compensation and multiple measurement ranges.

6.0WATER TREATMENT SERVICE PROGRAM:

6.1TRIDENT TECHNOLOGIES, INC., shall provide all consulting services for a period of one year from start-up of the cooling system which will include:

Installation and system start-up procedure recommendations;

Pre-operation system cleanout procedure supervision;

Initial water analysis and recommendations;

Training of operating personnel on proper feeding and control techniques;

Periodic field service and consultation;

Provide copies of all analytical and technical reports to the design engineer;

Provide all necessary log sheets and record forms;

Provide any required laboratory and technical assistance.

All services will be provided by a qualified, full-time representative of TRIDENT TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
