Go to: fhsscomputing.byu.edu and then select Washington Seminar on the Services tab.

Or, go directly to .

To use your personal computer at the Barlow Center, the following are recommended to be installed by you or a technician on your computer.

  • SymantecEndpoint Protection(multi-platform personal) software provided by BYU must be installed, and any existing viruses should beremoved (Macintosh computers are not required to have AntiVirus software, but it is also available).
  • AntiSpyware software must be installed and run to verify the computer is free of spyware or malware. Here are some examples of FREE software you can download:

Malwarebytes:

Lavasoft AdAware SE Personal Edition (

  • All updates available through Windows Update are applied. (
  • Automatic Updates must be enabled.
  • Any Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications should be removed (Limewire, Grokster, etc).
  • Macintosh computers should have the latest software updates applied.

We recommend but don’t require that you have your computer certifiedby a FHSS Computer Support technician to verify that the above are installed and running properly. The FHSS computer technicians in 382 SWKT will do this free of charge. The process should only take about 15 minutes if you follow the instructions above. If you are away from campus, we recommend you follow the instructions above to help your computer run efficiently while at the Barlow Center.

Access the wireless system in the Barlow Center by turning on your computer and opening the wireless controls for your computer. Your computer should search for the wireless access points that it can see. Look for the LDSAccess wireless device. Click on this device and enter the password: Pioneer47 (the “P” is capitalized.)

It is not uncommon for the wireless system to go down for a few hours or even a few days. So that you can still access the Internet, purchase and bring with you a 10 to 15 ftEthernet data cable (sometimes referred to as a CAT 5 data cable) that can connect your laptop to the data port in your apartment. Note that some laptops or tablets may require an adapter for the cable. Check to see if this is the case with your computer and bring it with you also. If the wireless goes out, you can also use the computers in the library.

If you experience problems with the wireless or Internet at the Barlow center:

  1. Go to another part of the building and try accessing the wireless again.
  2. See if others in the building are able to access the wireless. If they are, the problem is likely your computer.Reboot your computer and try to connect again.
  3. If the LDSAccesswireless is out in the building, contact the resident faculty member and provide as much of the following information as possible. (a) What part of the building is not receiving service. (b) How many people are affected. (c) How long the service has been out.(d) Your cell phone number.

To access the printer in the Barlow Center Library/Computer Lab from the port in your apartment or by wireless :

  • Download the driver software from the HP (Hewlett-Packard) Website ( Configure it foryour operating system.
  • The printer is a standard HP LaserJet P4515n. It has a standard TCP/IP port, with the address:192.168.10.20
  • Complete downloading instructions are posted on the Washington Seminar website.
