CHILDREN CENTRE REORGANISATION

The children centres within Southwark have undergone a consultation for restructure with a proposal that they are managed by a single centre within the four areas within the borough – two in the south and two in the north. In the south Ivydale will undertake the management with the second centre still to be agreed because Dulwich Wood, South Camberwell (DKH) and Crawford have all expressed an interest. In the North of the Borough, First Place will be undertaking half of the management with either Kintore Way or Rotherhithe managing the other.

CHILDREN WITH SEVERE MEDICAL NEEDS

The Headteachers Executive has raised the issue regarding medical needs both for ECHPs and those with ailments that require staff supervision within schools such as diabetes, asthma etc. The Executive has set up a meeting with the Chair and other members of the Clinical Commissioning Group on 22 April. Schools will be asked to notify the Executive of topics of concern to add to the Agenda and full feedback will be provided to schools.

FSM

The mismatch of data appears to be a national problem and needs to be addressed. Information should be easily available for schools to receive accurate data. This will be followed up at the next Headteachers Executive meeting.

VIOLENT CHILDREN

Schools are concerned regarding an increase in violent behaviour. Pauline Armour indicated that there may be funding to help address this issue (discussed at the last Headteachers Executive meeting). This will be followed up at the next meeting on 30 April with CAMB.

ASSESSMENT

The LA will be providing a model for monitoring and recording assessment, however, Richard Dax and Colin Lavelle have created working programmes which were shared with those attending the meeting. Colleagues are welcome to contact either Richard or Colin to share the programme until such time as the LA rolls out its programme for schools. Please contact either Richard Dax: or Colin Lavelle:

Nicky Tilson informed that the data would be compatible with all the various tools currently being used by schools including target tracker, SIMs, Sinnott etc.

AOB

The Chair of SAPH – Colin Lavelle - asked if there were any concerns that could be raised at the next Headteachers Executive meeting.

Safeguarding: A request to address easy access to a school was one that was considered a safeguarding risk and raised with the LA that sent an architect to consider the plans presented by the Head. The plans were approved and a suggestion that these should go ahead by the LA. However, there were no available funds to support the school to undertake the work. It was asked who schools should approach about funding similar projects? A suggestion was to enquire if the LA has a similar fund to those managed by diocesan schools – Local Controlled Voluntary Aided Pot (LC VAP) as it was thought that this might be the case. It was also suggested to make contact with Susan Fuller at Southwark. It was questioned whether the LA has access to money for buildings that was available to schools?

It was also raised that schools who had undertaken major project work were still awaiting for remuneration and that in some cases work is incomplete.

LAC – Top Slicing

Each Looked after child receives £1900 of funding and the LA has made a request to top slice this funding in 2015/16 - whereas in other boroughs this is not the case. This issue had been raised with Schools Forum and by which the decision for 2014/15 was reversed and no top slicing implemented. It was agreed to raise this concern at the next Headteachers Executive meeting.

PRIMARY COLLEAGUES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND SAPH MEETINGS THAT CURRENTLY FOLLOW THE BREAKFAST BREIFINGS AT ANGEL OAK. PLEASE FORWARD ANY CONCERNS OR ISSUES THAT YOU WOULD LIKE ON THE AGENDA OR TO BE RAISED AT HEADTEACHERS EXECUTIVE ON YOUR BEHALF.
