IMAGE EVALUATION GUIDELINES

1. Following HIPPA guidelines, complete the image evaluation form in advance. Hand written submissions will not be accepted. A total of two images must be presented, be prepared to answer any question posed by the instructor.

2. Select a radiographic procedure from a procedure that you completed with the supervision of an instructor or staff technologist that coincides with lecture material in Radiographic Procedures III or Radiographic Procedures II.

3. All images presented should not be textbook quality, but rather require some improvement. Keep in mind that images may have been acceptable to the radiologist, but need improvement to achieve optimal quality. I know that you consistently produce high quality images, but these are not able to be analyzed.

4. Use your image analysis textbooks as the basis for your critique and to identify specific corrective measures you would apply to improve image quality ie collimation size, CR location with respect to anatomy, revised kVp or mAs values.

5. Image evaluation that is not conducted one the scheduled day due to student absence will be rescheduled by the instructor prior to the end of the semester. A total of ten points will be deducted from the image evaluation grade for any presentation when cancelled by the student.

Directions: Prepare the evaluation in advance of the scheduled presentation. Use the criteria listed in your radiographic image analysis and radiographic positioning textbooks for the positions reviewed. The information must be transcribed; handwritten reports will not be accepted.

Images must be viewed anatomically correct.

7. List the anatomical structures best demonstrated according to your image analysis and radiographic positioning textbook. Identify structures in the images during the presentation. Be prepared to identify additional anatomy and positioning criteria as requested by faculty.

B. For each image you rated acceptable substantiate your rating orally and in writing.

For each image you rated less than acceptable, describe the specific changes necessary to make the radiographs acceptable according to textbook criteria. Base your answer on theoretical information and corrections found in your textbooks. For example if the Index is out of range, identify the new factor you would use to improve the quality. Likewise if the central ray location was incorrect, identify the specific location where you would direct the central ray. Keep summary to one page maximum.
