AP US History Decades Project

Overview

This small group (pairs) project will challenge you to look more closely at one of the decades of the latter half of Twentieth Century. After thoroughly researching your assigned aspects of your chosen decade, your group will be given 15-20 minutes to creatively and engagingly teach your classmates the highlights of your assigned aspects of the decade. Remember that your grade on this project will reflect the amount of preparation and research you put into it, as well as how smoothly and clearly it is taught. Pay attention to the requirements below. At the same time, be sure to have fun with this project!!!!! (60 points)

There will be three components to this unit.

Journals on TV/Movie excerpts (10 points) / Partner Write-up and Presentation (one of the following) (40 points)
·  Music and Dance
·  Arts and Literature
·  Sports and Leisure
·  Trends, Fads and Fashion / Individual “Participation” in a Decade other than your own
(10 points)
·  (Dress, dance, music, food)

Steps/Requirements

Research

Your team must first complete research in the Media Center and at home, using both print and online resources. At least four print resources are required! Be sure to keep track of your sources for a required bibliography in MLA format. This is easy to do as you go, but it is very frustrating to re-create at the end.

The Write-Up (Research Paper)

·  Write a 1-2 page summary of your topic within your decade. This is, essentially, a mini-research paper (MLA Format) and should explain the major trends and include some specific examples as support. Take care to use your own words, unless quoting. Include all print and online sources you consulted in your bibliography. The title should be a creative one that summarizes the trends. Your subtitle is simply your assigned aspect and the particular decade. For example, “Swinging into War: Music and Dance in the Forties”

·  Attach the bibliography to your Write-up. Remember to include ALL sources consulted, even those for images, music, etc. Must be in MLA format (see my website)

The Presentation

·  Your presentation must meet the time guidelines of 15-20 minutes. It should proceed smoothly and with clarity.

Presentations must include

·  Explanation of the overall trends of your assigned aspects of your decade.

·  Primary source visuals (from the decade) to share using the document camera

·  Primary source quotes to share either verbally, visually or both.
