ME Minor Requirements (Minor Code = 280)

Rev. 07/10/06

A minor in Mechanical Engineering is available to students in the Schools of Engineering or students in Industrial Management – Engineering (664). A ME Minor will be granted on the completion of the following 22 hrs and the required prerequisites*.

The core requirements are:

ME 200 Thermodynamics I 3cr

ME 270 Basic Mechanics I 3cr

ME 274 Basic Mechanics II 3cr with a grade of “C”

NUCL 273 Mechanics of Materials 3cr or better in each course.

ECE 201 Linear Circuit Analysis I 3cr

And one of the following 7-credit hour elective requirements**:

ME 309 Fluid Mechanics 4cr

ME 300 Thermodynamics II 3cr

MSE 230 Structure & Properties of Materials 3cr

ME 352 Machine Design I 4cr

ECE 207 Electronic Measurement Technique 1cr

ME 365 Systems and Measurements 3cr

ME 375 System Modeling & Analysis 3cr

Provided the 22 hrs are successfully completed with a grade of “C” or better in all of the courses, then a ME Minor will be awarded.

Generally, all of the above prescribed minor courses must be taken at the Purdue West Lafayette campus to be eligible for the ME Minor. The only exceptions to this rule are as follows:

1.  One equivalent transfer course from another university can be used if it is a core course and comes from an ABET-accredited program, OR

2.  One equivalent Purdue substitution may be used if it is deemed equivalent to the prescribed minor course and acceptable by the School of Mechanical Engineering.

No more than one substitution from either of the above two categories is acceptable to be eligible for the ME Minor.

______

*Minimum Prerequisites and/or Corequisites include: MA 165, 166, 261, 262 (or 265 and 266); Phys 172, 241 (or 251) (totals 25 hours).

** To be eligible to enroll in upper-level ( 300 level) ME courses, students must have achieved a grade of “C” or better on all of the core requirements.
