Rhode Island Rainbow Dress Code

Girls

Business Meetings (usually first meeting of the month- Not initiation or installation)

Dress or skirts (no more than two inches above the top of the knee). If dress or skirt has a slit, slit no more than two inches above the knee. Jean skirts are OK but need to be neatly pressed and tasteful. The back of dresses should not fall below your natural bra line. Hosiery is recommended -skin tone, nude, or white. Appropriate length slip is recommended- no one likes to see through your attire.

It is especially embarrassing for the gentlemen present

Light colored undergarments

Earrings no longer than 1 ½ inches from top of earring,

Shoes- no clogs, sneakers, platform, flip-flops, boots

Dress sandals with straps are OK

Body piercing jewels (other than earrings) should not be worn or need to be covered

Brag rags should only contain Rainbow emblems and must not “clank” as you walk

You must be formally attired to be formally introduced

Initiations/installations (even if done at first meeting of the month or in afternoon)

White floor length gowns, neatly pressed for officers, choir, and Mother Advisor

NO TRAINS GOWNS MUST BE SLIM ENOUGH TO WALK THROUGH BOW STATIONS WITHOUT KNOCKING ANYTHING OVER OR OFF PEDESTALS

Straps must be at least one inch wide at the narrowest part. No spaghetti straps or strapless. The back of your gown should not fall below your natural bra line and all undergarment straps need to be covered.

White or silver dress shoes (no clogs, sneakers, platform, flip-flops, boots) with nylons or dress socks

Light colored undergarments

Dress shoes (no clogs, sneakers, platform, flip-flops, boots )

Candidates- An appropriate dress of any color except all black and very dark colors

Grand Family: Grand Officers and JGEC need to wear hair up without pieces flying all over for formal Grand Assembly activities and introductions

Grand Representatives are requested to wear sashes at all meetings (including your own assembly business meetings.)

Miss Service may wear her Miss Service sash instead of Grand Representative sash if she is a Grand Representative.

Business Rainbow Casual- Khaki, Navy blue, or black dress slacks and assembly polos may be worn at the business meeting or first meeting of the month if it is not installation or initiation. Also, Assembly polos or Rainbow tee Shirts should be worn for parades, CHIP, serving a Masonic family dinner, or anywhere else you are making an impression.

Fun Rainbow Casual Assembly Activities (on/not on meeting days)

Pants or shorts (no higher than 6 inches above the top of the knee) may be worn when appropriate for the activity. Pants, jeans, and shorts must be clean, in good taste, and not have any holes, and be appropriate.

Social Activities - for formal attire

Colored gowns: floor or tea length of any color, except all black

For social functions (such as charity ball or Grand Assembly banquet or dance) spaghetti straps are allowed, Strapless is allowed as long as no cleavage is showing and dress is tasteful. Mid-drifts are not allowed.

Prospect events

It is recommended that you wear an appropriate shirt with Rainbow identified in some manner. Tasteful skirt or pants, appropriate to type of event

Swim wear

Bathing suits may be one or two piece providing that the suit is in good taste and not revealing. In hotels and other facilities, cover-ups and appropriate shoes must be worn when traveling to and from the pool.

Traveling to other Jurisdictions

Consult with the Supreme Inspector/Deputy on the dress code for that jurisdiction & adhere to it. Remember that you are a guest in that jurisdiction but still representing this one. Be proud of yourself & make us proud of you.

Adults

All adult advisors with a specific responsibility (Mother Advisor, Grand Deputy, etc. should consult their respective guidelines for proper attire).

Please respect the girls’ dress code and follow their example in other areas of attire.

Business Meetings

Female visitors: Dress pants or skirt and blouse of any color except all black. Your choice must look and be considered tasteful and appropriate. Remember that we as adults set the examples for the girls.

Dress pants are those that are neat, pressed, and loose fitting (preferably with a crease) They should be the type one would expect a professional woman to wear when meeting in public. This does not include jeans, cargo pants, leggings, stretch pants, sweat pants, etc.

Males: Dress pants with dress shirt or polo shirt

Initiations/ installation whether held at first or last meeting of the month or in the afternoon

Females: dress skirt and blouse or street dress no more than two inches above the knee including slits

Males: Dress pants with dress shirt and tie. Jacket is optional.

Assembly Activities (on/not on meeting days)
