  • What is C-SAFE?

C-SAFE: Cyber-Security Awareness for Everyoneis a free, one-day seminar open to all Floridians who wish to keep themselves, their families, and their businesses safe from computer and Internet threats. C-SAFEgives citizens and small businesses insights on the dangers of the Internet, while providing valuable lessons on securing their computers against the many pitfalls that they could face while online.

  • Why do people need C-SAFE?

New cyber dangers continually surface that threaten Florida’s citizens. In 2002, Floridaranked secondamong states with the highest number of Internet fraud victims. With the threat of not only fraud, but also hackers, cyber-stalkers, child predators, and cyber-terrorism, C-SAFE provides essential knowledge to all computer users on how to protect themselves.

"Cyber security is a critical issue for every citizen in our state and the C-SAFE course will provideFloridians with tools and tipson how they can make their systems safer and protectimportant data," Gov. Jeb Bush said. "I encourage Floridians to take advantage of thiscourse to learn what steps they can take to protect their corner of cyberspace."

  • What does C-SAFE cover?

C-SAFE covers a variety of topics that are important to every computer user:

Cyber Crime–how to protect yourself from viruses, worms, and other cyber attacks.

E-mail Practices–how to recognize and avoid spam, frauds, scams, and e-mail hoaxes.

Personal Security–creating strong passwords, preventing ID theft and cyberstalking, and avoiding online predators.

Networks - wired and wireless network security, and the importance of firewalls.

Rules –downloading and patch maintenance, as well as Secure Florida’s Best Practices for Internet Security.

  • Who is responsible for C-SAFE?

C-SAFE was developed by Secure Florida, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Cyber Security Institute. Secure Florida’s mission is: “Protecting the citizens and economy of Florida by safeguarding our information systems, reducing our vulnerability to cyber attacks, and increasing our responsiveness to any threat.

Secure Florida is a public-private partnership that functions under the auspices of the FloridaInfrastructureProtectionCenter. Secure Florida was founded in 2002, and operates the website.
