Dear Flat Springs Church Family,

Thank you for the many prayers, phone calls, visits and support during the loss of my father-in-law (Larry Coble) in late 2013, and most recently the loss of my grandmother, Zelma Mayfield. Your thoughtfulness has provided strength, comfort and encouragement to our family the last few months. We are so thankful and blessed to have such a wonderful and loving church family. Thanks especially to the Bereavement Committee, the musicians and Pastor Gary for being so flexible with last minute preparations for Larry’s funeral service, and for weather related postponements for Grandma’s service. Your devotion to the church, its families, and the surrounding community does not go unnoticed.

Learning and Growing in Community

Romans 14:13-19

INTRODUCTION

Today we continue our discussion about the church as a place and a people who grow and learn together. Last week we discussed a place where everyone loved and appreciated each other. Now we will examine the unique relationships which enable us to grow and learn together and make a difference in our homes and our larger community.

I.  Our Decisions shape our community for God (v. 13).

a.  Our decisions toward others is vital in our community.

b.  Our decisions are either a stepping stone of assistance or a stumbling block of hindrance .

c.  We will grow and learn when we decide to help and not hinder.

II.  Our Duty obligates our community to God (v. 15).

a.  Our community duty is not always about what we can do as much as about what we should do.

b.  We have an obligation to live and love like Christ.

c.  We will learn and grow when we do our duty to one another.

III.  Our Demonstration makes our community an example of God in our larger community (v. 17-19).

a.  How will we be remembered?

b.  What do we need to do in order to demonstrate that Christ is first in our lives and in our church?

c.  We will learn and grow as we demonstrate the priority of our love for God in all our interactions.

CONCLUSION

A community is a place where everybody knows our name. A people who make decisions, recognize our duty, and demonstrate God’s love is a community where we can learn and grow together.
