Purpose of the role

A core value of the Salvation Army is to support the basic needs of individuals and communities. The Corps Kitchen Supervisors role is to organise and oversee the smooth & efficient running of the corps kitchen and the preparation of food in accordance with basic hygiene & local food handling requirements. Attention to maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic and healthy work environment is critical.

Role Required Tasks

Key tasks of the Role / Key Activities / Expected Outcomes /
Catering Leadership / ·  Demonstrates leadership in running the kitchen volunteer team
·  Organizes training of volunteers in customer service & food handling regulations with local council
·  Directing volunteer catering assistants to deliver on outcomes
·  Ensure that items being used for food preparation are in date / ·  Communicate and lead the catering volunteer team to meet required outcomes
·  All volunteers are trained in customer service techniques where applicable
·  Meals cooked within the directed time frame
·  Clean and hygienic kitchen and surroundings as per health regulations
Provide quality customer service / ·  Ensure that setting up and clearing of tables is done within a timely manner
·  Ensure that food is available at the designated time & served as efficiently as possible
·  Ensure that dietary requirements are noted & where possible catered for
·  Cleaning of dishes, kitchen, floors as required / ·  Tables & chairs are packed away in the allocated storage area
·  Food for each course is available at the time of serving
·  Food is appropriately marked (e.g. gluten free, diabetic etc.) as appropriate
·  Thorough cleaning of all dishes, utensils & floors is undertaken after each service
Maintain a safe and healthy environment / ·  Food safety and stock control as per state legislation
·  Monitor and rectify any health and safety concerns within the premises
·  Waste minimisation and cleaning of kitchen area, including the emptying of bins / ·  Knowledgeable of the respective states food hygiene laws and WHS
·  Report any potential health and safety concerns to Corps Officer
·  Complete hazard/ incident and accident form in a timely way

Qualifications and experience requirements for the Role

·  Experience in leading and mentoring teams in a kitchen environment

·  Experience in cooking and serving customers

·  Needs to be able to co-ordinate others to work in a team setting

·  Has the spiritual gift of hospitality

Mandatory requirements of the Role

·  Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process

·  Food Handling Certificate

·  Knowledge of work health and safety particularly in a kitchen environment

·  Working with Children Check and Current Criminal History Check (Police check) required
